June likely to come in with a summer-like scorch

You know I'm at a beach or on water probably more then anyone here. 4-6 times a week.

I love the water.

For fishing mostly but also some swimming.

I was wading in 42 degree water in March catching striped bass while you were still looking at models for snow. Waders and 40 degree water. Frigid!!! But whatever.

?

I'll link the article of the tragic death tomorrow. I'm on iPhone right now.

They explained that with water temps still at a frigid 58-62 degrees, a human's body temp will lower in a few mins and drop to a dangerous levels. The person wouldn't feel it as the water is just warm enough to be able to adapt to it.

Freaky death, regardless and very rare.

but they do occure, looks like this one was just caused by the cold water.

Not really too bad...60's in the metro and portions of NJ for lows. Definitely not warm--but I wouldn't call it chilly.

Yeah mid/upper 50s is average for this time of year; today's highs were certainly well below normal though.

Nothing like the past 2 nights which were 46 and 51 here.

Tonight it will be near 60 F for the city and low to mid 50's for LI and cooler spots tonight not as chilly as last night where it was in the 40's in good part of LI. It was 50 F in Islip Airport and I think 41 F KFOK at least.

Water is so cold, beach is useless. Unless you enjoy laying out and bronzing, like Earthlight does.

Friends fishing today said SSTs today are down to 57 in mid LI sound and only 61 inside the western sound harbors.

Both were in the upper 60's last week.

I was at the Jersey shore on Friday and yeah the water was freezing. I could only put my feet in for a minute or two. I don't know what the exact temp was, but I'd estimate it was around 65. Better to go in July and August when the water gets warmer. It's still nice to just lay out in the sun though and throw a frisbee around or something.

Btw, to the person who said all beaches suck around here, maybe you've never been to Island Beach State Park, but the beach there is beautiful.

I don't think you understand the types of beaches I'm used to. Nothing within 1,000 miles of here compares.

In all seriousness...someone will come near 100 with 850 temps of 21 c and west-southwest winds. Maybe near Philly?

oh hell yeahh, i can see alot of 98's being reported..Cool how each heat wave gets stronger and stronger so it wont be long until we crack 100

If it's anything like Coney Island then I feel bad for you man. Saw live shots of it last weekend on the news, people packed like sardines, could barely see the sand. Disgusting as hell. Overcrowding is a total turn off, for me at least.

Beaches around here may get 50% of that on July 4th, but most of the summer its great.

Hopefully we get winds to continue somewhat overnight Wed or Thurs so maybe some 75+ lows are possible. I love the feeling walking out around midnight and temps still being around 80 degrees. Very surreal b/c it rarely happens here. Great for night swimming of course too.

Would be nice to get some convection in here as well. No D 3 or 4 slight risk on SPC, so we've got that going for us so far.

I could see at least place like Newark, Trenton, and Philly all hitting 95 or 96 F at least like last Wednesday.

One thing I hate dry cold fronts like last Wednesday screw day but maybe there could some if the cold front stalls by the end of the weekend or early the following week after the hot spell and there is small chance for Tuesday with the warm front which you never know.

yeah i mean, at this point im just following your severe weather motto of just expecting nothing in terms of big time convection and that a see text is 10x better than a high end slight risk :lmao:

This is the exact beach I spent my summers growing up - our small summer home just outside the main town is about 50 meters from the water.

And a shot of the main town:

I've never been swimming in Coney Island and I've lived my whole life in Queens lol. My parents took me to the beach to actually swim in the USA a total of 1 time in the first 16 years of my life and it was way out on the east end.

Yep, expect nothing hope for nothing, and you'll never be disappointed.

Northern New England looks active again this week, periphery of heat ridge/differential advection. Always seems like we get screwed April/May b/c of the marine layer, then once the heat's here, the convection skips over our region and goes to C/NNE.

I joke about SPC a lot, but it's true, almost all of my best T-storms occurred with very little warning. The most intense T-storm I remember experiencing was the July 2nd (or 1st) bow echo of 2001. A moderate intensity cold front, moving NW to SE. Storms developed in NE PA and tracked southeastward through Sussex, Morris, Somerset, Middlesex, and then Monmouth by about 11pm. I still remember the radar imagery of the bow echo slicing thru Monmouth then turning due south on the Jersey Shore. Produced a gustnado in Red Bank and 60mph winds and extreme lightning IMBY.

Maybe this could be good sign that there is little advertisement for convention this week because our best thunderstorms happen sometimes when they are played down in the forecast. Remember last wednesday when it was highly so maybe I am not getting my hopes right now. What we need is a stalled cold front waves of disturbance to ride over it to get more heavy rain producing thunderstorms like we had last year following the heat wave.

Thursday is going to be the hottest day but Wednesday will be warmer though and don't forget the NAM has cool bias also but I think Thursday will be the only 90+ degree for the city where on Wednesday some warm spots could go near 90 F but mainly 80's elsewhere.

Seriously, when are we going to implement population control? It's about time....

Am I seeing right or is the 0z NAM not that hot for Wednesday? Thursday still looks like a scorcher though.

Looks plenty hot to me...93 in the city with light west-northwest winds. 20 C 850 temps on Thursday..but we can only see out to 12z. Gotta wait until tomorrow's runs to get the first indication as to how hot Thursday may actually be...although mid 90s is a fair bet just eyeballing it.

Yea I saw that 20C bubble for 7AM Thursday and I knew if the run extended into the afternoon it would be damn hot. I have to do a presentation in front of my job's entire staff on Thursday in a non air conditioned room in the top floor of a building. I'll be grinding my teeth thinking how you wished for this weather while drinking Malibu bay breezes in your pool.

lol I was thinking you might ask that-- in the summer, temps in the 60s, windy, rainy..... in the winter, temps in the 40s, windy, rainy.

Hell in the summer is a cold raw noreaster with temps in the 50's and 60's and for the winter is brutal cold temps near zero with wind chill well below zero with evil biting cold wind.
