Been cloudy all afternoon too. It's more a lack of sunshine than it being cold.

Easterly flow isn't helping either. Even with sunshine, doubt we would have gotten higher then 73-76.

LI sound is still only 61-65 degrees and similar in the ocean.

Interesting to see the US current temperature map. We're one of the coolest regions of the nation right now. Basically BWI/MDT westward to the Pac NW you've got 80s and 90s. Nothing stopping summer's return over the next couple days. May even see some low 90s on Tuesday in the normally hotter spots.

I'm at 64.8 here. Low 80s in DC with sunshine. That'll be our weather tomorrow.

Do you agree with the WSI summer outlook? They have much above normal weather in the deep south, south east and above normal summer temps in the mid atlantic up to southern PA. They have the NW and Rockies and west in general in much below normal to below normal temps and the NE from NJ northward in average summer temps.

the beach would be nice too-- it's not like we live in Kansas lol.

Water is so cold, beach is useless. Unless you enjoy laying out and bronzing, like Earthlight does.

Friends fishing today said SSTs today are down to 57 in mid LI sound and only 61 inside the western sound harbors.

Both were in the upper 60's last week.

Wow, what happened? There's never a rhyme or reason to the SST ups and downs.... sometimes it seems when we get really hot weather the SST actually goes down lol.

Alex, just looked at it, and it seems their progression is different then mine. We agree on a warm/very warm June, but I have July mild as well while they're cool, then August is opposite (I'm cool; they're warm). Overall departures are probably similar since we both have 2/3 warm months, 1 cool.

What do they have with regards to rainfall? Normal too?

Water temps on the NJ shore are above normal for this time of year. Sandy Hook's at 69F which is more typical for a month from now. However, LI water temps are near to slightly below normal.

Southerly winds are much more helpful in warming SST's even though it keeps the coast cool. Warmer surfaces waters from the gulf stream are pushed nwd; strong NW winds are the worst as they upwell colder water underneath.

So south shore of long island temps are similar to NJ shore temps? I'm about 10 miles from Sandy Hook lol....NE.

Don't be a b**ch...I went to the beach the week before Memorial Day..it was around 85 degrees and I went in the water. Please.

I went in the water the second week of May with some friends down in Seaside Park. Water was colder than a witch's tit and feet went numb after a few minutes. Was definitely invigorating though. :weight_lift:

It wasn't too cold when I went in at Pier Village. The air helps a ton. It was actually pretty refreshing.

That's what the beach is all about.

Upper 50's and low 60's is actually dangerous for a prolonged period.

A man died swimming in the calm waters off Mamaroneck last week. He stayed out too long and the cold water caused shock and made his muscles lock up. He drowned in 6' of water.

Caused the beach to be shut down for a little while.
