June likely to come in with a summer-like scorch

While later in the week could be quite warm with at least being well into the 80's to near 90 F and possibly even the low 90's on Friday, today will be quite chilly day with a nasty east winds where it will be in the 60's in most places today and I won't surprise especially on Long Island if it doesn't get much above 60 F if there is alot cloud cover. East winds are the worse direction and bring the chilliest days in the warm season.

Decent s/w trof today. Could see iso showers and storms. If CAPE was better, we'd see a svr report or two.

Showers possibly but don't think thunderstorms because of a chilly east to northeast winds keeping it a stable cool air in place and if any thunderstorms do happen it will stay SW of NYC and probably down in from South Central NJ and Southwestward through PA including the Philly area into southern areas in NY State around Binghamton area.

Binghamton moved?

If it wasn't for the humidity I wouldn't care as much for the impending heat. I grew up spending my summers on the Mediterranean, I can handle the heat if need be. I just can't stand humidity and stagnant air which unfortunately happen to be the hallmarks of NYC summers.

I know it seems odd to you New Yorkers, but the whole section of New York along I-86/NY 17 is considered the "Southern Tier"

Southern tier != southern NY. I know full well what the southern tier is.

But I think that Ray's point was that Thunderdude's intended reference to Binghampton being in southern NY was that it was in the "Southern Tier," portion of NYS and not the southernmost portion of NYS where we are.

My forecasted high for Thursday is 95.

I know what Rays original point was; my original comment was made in jest. Im not that big a fan of the whole "it may surprise you NYers" stuff though.

On days when there's a strong W or NW wind component, it can actually get HOTTER down here than further inland. JFK often runs ahead of other terminals on those kind of days.

I think Thursday is pretty much a guaranteed 90+ day for us, the real question is whether it will be over 90 here Wednesday and Friday too.

BTW do you have any more info on the Lynbrook Labor Day 1998 tornado? In some places I've seen it mentioned as an F3, but I'm pretty sure it was an F2 (F2.5 or high end F2 actually) with winds around 130-135mph..... it actually probably wasn't too far from being an F3, which would have been historic for our area. It was a 1 in 100 year event as it was.

I would suspect widespread mid to possibly upper 90s if the current forecast holds true

Looks like we'll have a nice downsloping wind that day..... may be the only day it gets to 90+ here on the south shore of Nassau County. The forecast I saw for Wednesday and Friday was 85 both days.

Thanks! Looks like the path was only 1/10 of a mile long (about 2 blocks here lol).... which is characteristic of tornadoes around here, they don't stay on the ground very long, and about 200 yards wide, but caused a million dollars in damage!
