I know...only 3 degrees higher than yesterday at this time....maybe they 'only' get to 95 or 96 today?

Was figuring 101, 102 for them today. Its still early. Based on last years antics, it can go up or down 8 degrees in one hour, lol.

They also started a bit lower bottoming out around 70 this morning. Last year during the July heatwave I know they were well into the 90s by this time but after a morning low of 79 or 80

had a feeling the mixing would be an issue. tomorrow will be the day. still probably gonna approach the record today (97)

We have 21C-22C 850mb temps over NYC and NJ now. But we are not we aren't mixing out high dewpoints, like we did at this time yesterday. The clouds from NW have fall apart, but it's just enough to keep temps from rising faster. I think EWR misses out on 100F today too.

already a sea-breeze at JFK, torch fail and models fail.

Sea-breeze is coming in ISP as well. 15z SPC meso, shows thermal trough is already redeveloping over the NYC forcing the winds to back south along the immediate coast.

yeah, its freaking hot, no debating it this week.

I'm not saying it's not hot, but the forecasts of mid-upper 90s for Westchester may be a little optimistic. The temperature has stopped rising nearly as quickly here and is now at 84.9F. Will this be another heat wave denied for residents of the northern suburbs? Last time we were supposed to be having this big heat wave, it only got to 85F one day. 850s and sun angle support bigger warmth now, but we'll see how much.

places immediately along the ocean are getting a sea breeze. i'm going to have to consult my college textbooks to figure this one out.

You act like northern suburbs are the only location that haven't had 90's. NYC and LGA only hit 90 ONE time so far this year.

Will be 3 times after tomorrow.

LOL.

Only the South shore buoys are reading South winds and not that strong either. Only 7-9 knots right now.

All north shore buoys are still reading WNW winds and very weak at 5 knots.

Even the Block Island buoy has weak southerlies, only 5 knots.

I know...climo only supports like three 90F readings though by the end of June for Central Park. So we'll probably be above normal in that department with this heat wave.

I was just saying there had been a big gradient between the northern suburbs and southern suburbs like where Earthlight lives. Down there, they've already dealt with excessive heat. Up here, not so much...

Its not really a southern gradient. Its a west to east gradient. Areas close to water, like NYC, only reached 90 one time.

Earthlight, Forky and Isotherm dont get affected by south winds (only east winds affect them) and have reached 90 at least 4-5 times.

Who cares, after you hit the 90 mark it really doesn't make a difference. Its oppressive no matter how you cut the cake. The high dew points are making it even worse. Bring back mid 80's and low humidity. People are arguing about the difference between hitting 95 and 99 as if they were discussing 30" of snow vs 6" of snow. I really hope we get a good tropical system up this way soon so we have more to discuss than just how hot its going to be vs how hot people are hoping its going to be.

That Midtown location always runs a little warm. All the other NYC locations are 87-89.5 right now.

Either way, no debating that today is very hot. Near 90 everywhere and its only 11:45am.

I think it gets more sunlight in the morning (looking at how rapidly it goes up once the sun rises), although my neighborhood (24/lex) has to be one of the warmest in the entire city. They need to put a PWS in Times Square.
