weatherMA
Yeah, I often wonder what thermometer Earthlight is using down there (is that the car thermometer parked in the asphalt driveway?), but NJ does generally torch on S/SW flow that keeps places like LI and Westchester cooler.... High of 81.4F after a low of 63.1F. Currently 79.4F and sunny. Gorgeous here, not a torch but definitely a bit warmer than normal. 84 for Dobbs Ferry according to this: http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=Dobbs+Ferry%2C+New+York Westchester at 87: http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Westchester,%20New%20York
Sundog
lol. Just admit you busted already. Upper 80s are pretty widespread, and normal this time of year is mid 70s for those areas. Upper 80's are NOT widespread.
nzucker
84 for Dobbs Ferry according to this: http://www.wundergro...rry%2C+New+York Westchester at 87: http://www.wundergro...r,%20New%20York Neither of those stations is as close to my house, or as representative of my climate, as the station I use (Beach Hill Yonkers in Scarsdale, NY). The second station in New Rochelle is entirely on the other side of the County, well to my SE, and way more urbanized, also at 54' whereas I'm near 400'. Tarrytown is also a few miles from here and is a bigger town with less tree cover and more of an urbanized landscape. That's why I prefer Scarsdale since it's a small wooded town, and the temperatures run close to the two home thermometers I own.

He didn't bust at all...this week hasn't been particularly hot here. Since Sunday, I've had one day in the upper 50s, one day in the low 60s, two days in the upper 70s, and two days in the low 80s. That's not a torch for Memorial Day week, and it's not the widespread 85-90F for multiple days that some posters such as Isotherm were promising. It just hasn't been that warm considering we're in late May. Above average, sure, but not a torch. Also, I don't know why you're coming into our thread and challenging people who know 100X more about NYC climatology than you do. You're telling me that it's 87F where I live, citing a station that's 15-20 miles away in a big city and 300' lower...great job!

nzucker
really? I am kidding you around but it does amaze me that you've had upper 80s like every day this week whereas we've been stuck in the 75-82 range basically since the warmth started. earthlight
I'm browsing on a phone, but did Zucker just say that the ASOS for Dobbs Ferry is not correct for his house in Dobbs Ferry? Regarding the bust, there were a select few posters who continually said we would not get near 90 F which was a bust. My specific post was that "at least one of the reporting stations will get near 90 this week", which admittedly is a broad statement given the contrast between here and the snowy peaks of zucker mountain and the cool foggy valleys of thetrials land. It can be taken either way. Here, it was a torch. +13, +15, and +15 on three days is a torch to me, regardless of the season. Those departures in January would have half the board jumping off the empire state building. Everybody should just go enjoy the damn weather. It's going to be 90+ in many areas on Memorial Day. Wunderground's "Dobbs Ferry station" is not actually in my town. If you look on the website, it's in Tarrytown which is a 15 minute drive from here. The one I use is Beach Hill in Scarsdale which is a bit closer and more like the wooded environment in my town. Tarrytown's a much bigger town though and I tend to find it a bit warmer there. These aren't official ASOS stations though anyway. Next week doesn't look nearly as hot anymore, as I mentioned in the other thread. 12z ECM backs off the 850s again with a cold front excluding Tuesday from the heat wave, highest 850s are like 18C in the extreme SW zones, and Wednesday is the only real scorcher. I think manly just the warm spots inland will see 90+ while the coastal spots with onshore wind will be a bit cooler still. Today still made in 75-78 F range here on Long Island while I think will likely be at least near 80 F on Memorial Day and in the low 80's on Tuesday while the city will get well into the 80's to near 90 F on both days. Regarding your January comment, the more appropriate analogy would be if the departures were negative in winter and we already averaged highs below freezing. We already average warm weather now so several degrees above doesnt feel wrong. A departure of +3 would send people off cliffs in winter, let alone +15 when we live so close to the transition line. NJwinter23
Plenty of upper 80s and even a few 90s in spots at the 4PM hour last hour. High was 89 at nearby New Brunswick (though I always suspected that station to be Robock-friendly a.k.a ~1º too warm every day). Why is John getting so much flack for reporting upper 80s lol? This weather is nice especially since there are not that many bugs out as of yet. Cheers folks! These temps seem high with HPN only getting up to 82F, but I don't know how urbanized your areas are. I find Westchester to be an interesting zone for microclimates since you have wooded areas near 1000' at the top of the County and extreme concrete jungles at 0' at the bottom of the County. It's hard to qualify what a "torch" is since people's experiences can vary so widely within a small area. I'm sure I'm one of the cooler spots at 350' surrounded by a large nature preserve called the Juhring Estate.
supermeh
Hartsdale is to the weat of white plains. Maybe it is less susceptible to a sea breeze.
