Here it is 75/66 with a south wind and hazy sunshine. A bit more warmer and so far high was like 77 F and that is not bad for LI in late May. You can't expect it get too warm with the South to Southeast wind on LI and water temps still in the 55-60 F range. That is why on the hottest days next week I still call for that area to get only near 80 F or into the low 80's at best if the flow will be West to Southwest where the city will be in the 85-90 F range.

the warm weather has definitely busted. isotherm is wearing a north face jacket in monmouth county right now.

Wow. If its in the upper 80s there with 15-16C 850 mb temps, just imagine what's it going to be like next week with 20C 850mb temps. Mid-upper 90s possibly?

The area is generally 79-82.

Upper 80's are an outlier for this regional weather board. Even the Tarmac at Newark is only 83.

Nice warm day.

Good post... its certainly possible away from the water. The highs have been lower near the coast the past 3 days so the departures aren't as dramatic. But given the westerly winds monday, and globals indicative of 20 c 850 temps at around 21z, much of new jersey should bake. Somebody in Central/Western NJ is going to get into the mid 90s.

The west winds really help to keep the seabreeze at bay, too, so if it does develop as modeled, EWR, PHL, NYC, etc will make a run at or past 90 as well.

The difference is the low level winds. All the coastal reporting stations had or had east/southeast winds today. Myself, Isotherm, and areas west of EWR have had southwest winds. I haven't gone to an easterly wind since yesterday at 7pm.

Isotherm and I really do live in a "hot box" type area. In this synoptic set up we are far enough west to avoid the sea breeze, and far enough east to be away from elevation/etc.

EWR is 83 because they have a SE wind and the edge of newark bay is right at the ASOS

most of the region immediately west of NYC is in the mid 80's

Most of this regional board is 78-84.

The area on that map that is 78-82 is over 12million people.

Nice warm day.

I do agree. 850mb temps where between 18C and 19C when hit TTN and PHL made it 90-91 yesterday. So 20C temps would probably yield to highs of 94-95, with the low-level flow remaining westerly through most of day and enough sunshine.

JFK appears to have topped out at 77.

So a general 77-83 areawide with the hot spots in the upper 80's and equally, the low spots in the low 70's.

EWR and maybe central park have a chance to move up in the next hour... look at the visible loop

Yes sir. We are making a run at 89 here now as winds are west-southwest.

Exactly three people, you, forky, and isotherm, have reported these warm temps as you guys are on the western/sw edge of the area. 99% of the people who read/post in this thread saw warm temps but no torch.

lol. Just admit you busted already. Upper 80s are pretty widespread, and normal this time of year is mid 70s for those areas.

Yeah, I often wonder what thermometer Earthlight is using down there (is that the car thermometer parked in the asphalt driveway?), but NJ does generally torch on S/SW flow that keeps places like LI and Westchester cooler....

High of 81.4F after a low of 63.1F. Currently 79.4F and sunny. Gorgeous here, not a torch but definitely a bit warmer than normal.
