He's a journalist. He should be getting the best footage he can.

Agreed, he's a journalist, and he also offered to help. It's better than just taking pictures and not helping. We complain when TWC doesn't cover breaking weather, but now they are we still complain? Under the circumstances, I think he's doing the best he can to do both help and cover the story.

Do hospitals typically have cyrogenics tanks? Liquid oxygen or nitrogen?

Yes.....what happen is the tank is damage from the tornado/buliding collaspe.....which its now self venting.....but you have to worry about the liquid boling causing a explosion

Meanwhile, off to the SE of Joplin, it is definitely an uncomfortable time here. There is a lot of action headed our way, and the sky is currently getting quite dark. Got my plans set "just in case"...fortunately have a relatively good basement situation with no windows and some partition walls to somewhat support the structure above should it become compromised. Of course the odds ae heavily against a direct hit, but those Joplin pics are a bit unnerving.

Commit to one or another...don't offer to help they guy then roll off to somewhere else.

Anyways, I'm fine with discussing this sometime else...the responsibilities of journalists as they cover this type of stuff is an interesting discussion topic.

The questions he was asking of grateful dead dude (who was obviously in shock) were inane and not very helpful. If he wanted to help, he could end the quest for the best disaster porn and roll up his sleeves.

Exactly! This shouldn't be some prime time streaming bullshiiiit! Turn off the camera and get the crew to help out recovering people with injuries and such. If I were looking for my neighbor and and Mike Bettes comes strolling along with a 6 man camera crew the last thing I would want is to be filmed. The damage will be there tomorrow and many days after if they want to film it so bad.

Sometimes its just better to let the first responders do their job rather than making the situation worse (by doing something wrong or getting hurt yourself) . It's pretty likely that nobody in the crew has any proper medical training.

It's pretty hard dealing with tornado damage just minutes after it happened... I'm pretty sure anybody could say dumb things in the heat of the moment. Gotta give them a break here.

Since Mike has been live streaming, I've only seen 1 Engine, and maybe Rescue/Attack Pumper in that whole area. They must be beyond overwhelmed. Very scary, at least Tuscaloosa had overwhelming First Responders in the area almost immediately. Much more sparse in this area.

I saw two ambulances in the background but I don't know where they went

I can't get mad at Mike for what he's doing. He's only an on air met, not a chaser, technically. 99% chance he has no 1st responder training, so he would only be hurting people if it came down to it. Also if he stopped shooting, NBC would probably fire him before he even got back to Atlanta. It's not like he's out there shooting everything without emotion, the man damn near broke down crying.

Agreed, I'm sure if NBC didn't require him to be a journalist and shoot video of it all, he'd be helping fully without having to worry about shooting video. He is human after all, and seems like a good guy.
