I don't know, do you classify a white Christmas as having snow on the ground or just snow coming down? That's kind of a gray area for me. I think I'd call it white if snow was coming down but wasn't on the ground, otherwise I would call it white if snow was on the ground but it wasn't snowing. Id like to see a lil of both actually....to me thats a white christmas with flakes flying and at least a lil bit of white covering stuff. I have seen a few christmas's with snow on the ground but not snowing that day....very few but yea I have seen some. Only once(last year) have i seen snow on the ground and it actually snowing at the same time....i was in high heaven last year lol. You think with my age and growing up on the east coast I would have seen it more but nope....never seen either back home or at least what I can remember lol. Wx 24/7
The point forecast temps are merely inconsequential at this point. Keep an eye on the actual temperature through the event. That will mean a whole big difference between all rain and something much more wintery. Additionally, looks like some radar echoes are already starting to pop up on TSA's radar. I am sure it isn't hitting the ground, but at least there will be something to nowcast later.

In the weather community, a white Christmas is classified as 1 inch or more of snow on the ground, snow in the air being irrelevant. But Im sure to the casual observer any amount of snow could be considered a white Christmas.

Lots of ragged spotty stuff on the radars popping up. Temp is now just a tad above 37. I need to get a better weather station the one i got is old old and it wont show the dewpoint when its below 32....it will just say LL

NwWhiteOut
Just had a quick 5 minute rain shower go through. Temp went down to 36.8 the rain stopped now its back up to 37.8. Is this the kinda little storm that when the precip happens the temp drops then when the precip stops the temp climbs? Ive seen these type before NWS changed the forecast now for here. Low of 31 tonight and rain after midnight. Tomorrow rain and sleet changing over to light snow or flurries during the evening...temp of 35 tomorrow. Doesnt sound good

NwWhiteOut
Probably, they changed ours to just rain today and tomorrow here. Sorry to hear that man Im thinking if this keeps up with the trends this advisory is not needed. I dont know this storm is another confusing one to forecast it sounds. They still say light snow develops tomorrow afternoon only sounds like for a very short period of time, which you allready mentioned before i believe. Oh well what can u do ya know lol. What is advisory material for down this way? Just seems like an inch of snow at best wouldnt be advisory material but im not sure down this far

No cold air in place really. Warms up before the colder air arrives tomorrow, still may see some snowshowers on Christmas tho.

NwWhiteOut
Springfield has 33 and rain. Yea 33.8 here now as well. What a cold rain to i just got done walking the dog. What a waste lol! Temp is still dropping but the rain has let up some so the temp is going down slowly again....the heavier downpours is what gets it to dive bomb faster. Ive seen this a few times in ice storms...hell i guess at this point ill even take a light glaze of ice lol

backdoorfront
I can empathize with the near misses on the snows. What is silly is that my home weather station says 39.2 and it is still snowing lightly. Here are some pictures.
