Something fresh to talk about may even include snow in the elevations

Typhoon Tip

Oh, through 4/30:

BGR is 0.0

MKT is -0.3

HOU is -0.5

CAR is -0.6

April has been cool & wet in N. ME. No buds, no green on lawns, snow remains in the woods and on the shady edge of fields.

I was in NY/ALB from 4/13-4/27. The consensus among tugboat observers was April was cool and wet there too.

Yup, the avg'd data says plus but April felt and looked cold. The upper Hudson is not green as of 4/26.

And now, talk of snow.

Vim Toot!

Yes it has. Seems like a fairly average April, a few warm days, some snow, lots of wind and most days pt/mostly cloudy. Down to just a few lonely piles of snow above 1700' and only now the hint of foliage that will grow wildly for 120-140 days before the killing frost ends the party. Wish it were shorter.

Same at BDR which was overcast from 4 AM-4 PM with temps of 61 as late as the 3 PM obs. The weather down here isn't that much different than the rest of the state.

temp got to 64 at bdr

been an amazing spring, was down in Gtown yesterday to see the inlaws almost a full leafout, and nearly a +2 for the month of April great stuff, hope you are enjoying it.

I agree Joe, although it hasn't been quite so good here as it has for you. Maybe it hasn't had the +4 or +5 departures of last spring, but its had some cool, some warm, some rain. I don't want 80F+ in April so an average spring is good.

lol, good to see another opinion from down there. I was starting to wonder why people travel all the way to Florida for warm, sunny weather when it seems like the tropics are right here in New England, as close as Fairfield County. drunk.gif

At least I try to contribute something of value on the wx side. Which is far more than you will ever contribute

You chose to ignore this post located just 3 posts above yours and posted 4 hours & 40 minutes prior to the baseless point you attempt to make in the bolded text above.

Maybe there is some hope for you as at least you are reacting defensively here- something a full-blown troll would never stoop to do.

TOOT! Is the spaceship stowed for the season or are you still riding from patch to patch?

My fabulous rocket ship is safely stored away. Last ride was 4/12- hours before my 10 hr drive to two weeks work in NYC.

Mimi and I were walking one of our woods trails yesterday. Still rideable for some way but I'd have to cross a quarter mile of field to get to it. The glorious rocket ship has some spiffy ski-wheels but they aren't much use on wet field so I willed myself not to give in to that primal urge the sight of snow arouses.

I won't be riding again until the first heavy frosts of late Sept. unless a white surprise falls like pixie dust on my fields soon.

Besides, I am readying our magnificent and ostentatious motor yacht for her splashdown in the mighty Ct river down there in charming but expensive Chester.

Enjoyed your AK pictures. 15 years in the Aleutians were enough for me.

I want nothing more than to build a modest, off the grid home on our land in Willow, AK. and spend the rest of my days adventuring in that magnificent place. When we were flying around we often would see snowmachines in very remote places and I thought to myself," Vim Toot would like this place." Glad to know you are familiar with that part of the world. Other than one more trip to Tuckerman's ravine I've resigned myself to waiting patiently for the snow to return. This is the only kind of highway I'd like to commute on.lol Don't be a stranger to the SNE threads, we need more wit and less torch talk.

You just proved my point - your post was heresay garb about trees blooming or something...how about a wx post related to forecasting or something that requires skill, not hindsight?

Goal next winter for you, toots

Save your time. Birving is simply a contrarian with little self control.

Having driven through Dreadford, NH as fast as possible, I understand why he is so ornery.

I would be too were I stuck in a middling mcmansion planted amidst the barely elevated swamps of the lower Merrimac valley.

No, I'm not a contrarian, I'm a snow lover and unwavering in my fetish. I don't whine about Winter from Feb on only to then express a desire for snow to fall in May.

Strategically located to maximize the contrarian feeling. Your posts are becoming less pompous lately, maybe you should work on that.

My role here, mr. Bvirgin, is not that of a meteorologist or model interpreter. I don't even pretend to be one!

I observe and reflect. Many posters here are fun or strange and deserve my attentions.

You are a dullard who has become rude and wearisome over time.

You aren't really worth very many words from me.

I love the tilted structure of this post!

I'm absolutely crushed by this news.

Enjoy the sea level landscapes of SNH.

I tried searching the web for Vim Toot and other than anagrams for Atomic Vomit - stupid - all I kept getting were other forums where posters were asking, 'what ever happened to that mica vim toot that used to troll the boards'..

hahahahaha

Good call on the snow in higher elevations, Tip.

Just skied through some fresh May snow at Stowe.

1" at ~2,500ft

2-3" at ~2,700ft

4" at ~3,200ft

6" at ~3,650ft

Mansfield co-op is only reporting 2" of "NEW" snow but that's wrong. The snow depth at the stake increased 3" and they had over 1" of liquid equivalent in the past 24 hours at temperatures that never got above freezing. That would explain the "dense" 6-inches up above 3,600ft... ratios could not have been much better than 6-8:1 even up at 4,000ft.

Awesome news, Powderfreak.

I just wish some of the Northeast mountains had a couple thousand more feet of elevation; Mt. Washington would probably have glaciers and at least a perennial snowcap if it reached another to 1500' with the summit around 8k. Given our incredibly moist climate and the various types of storms resulting in snowfall during different parts of the year, it's a shame we don't have any peaks in the 8,000-10,000 foot range. I would personally love to build an elevated "sky-park" near my house...basically a 1000' tower with a platform at the top planted with trees, flowers, perhaps a small pond or brook....see how much snow accumulates up there compared to downtown at low elevation. This is my weenie dream.

One of the reasons our climate plays out as is can be attributed to geography. Having "Western style' mtns would yield a different climate, probably much drier on the cp.
