Halfway through meteorological summer, and if the rate of 90F days were to continue, we're looking at an above normal amount of 90F days for all sites. Will be interesting to see how the second half of summer compares to the first. We'll tack on a couple more 90F through Wednesday, but then it looks fairly sparse the rest of the month to me.

Day 12 here today, neck and neck with NYC.

Guest Pamela

i wonder if lga can pull of a 90 degree day at midnight, lol

I rememeber a couple times in the 1980's they were close...still at 90 F @ 11:00 PM...but don't recall if they were there at midnight...LGA has been the worst UHI for at least the last 40 years...

LGA is the warmest location in the Eastern US right now..

http://www.weather.c...ures_large.html

Often times parts of GA and SC have frosts before LGA. One helluva UHI.

Not sure if the post in question (about 90 after midnight) but I think it may have happened 7/14-15/1995. I recall the temperature dipping to 84 around 9 a.m. in a brief shore before going over 100. That heat wave ended in the famous derecho in upstate NY.

Edit. I was right, at least at LGA (link). It was around 90 at midnight. I remember seeing that also on my home thermometer when I came back from my 20 year High School reunion that night. We didn't pick up a 90 degree day though since that day, July 15, it made it to 102, and July 14 had a high of 98. It was under 90 by the wee hours of July 16.KNYC's reading was not available.

Today was #16 here. 9 days for the month of July. Will be interesting to see what August holds. My thinking is we'll be warm/humid/wet with increased moisture via bermuda high and southerly flow. Probably a warmer than normal month but nothing more than +1/+2.

90 degree days at newark NJ

2010 - 54 - total year

2011 - 31- total year

2012 through 7/26 - 23

those stats are on the first page. I plan on adding the prior twenty years back to 1990 soon.

Between tomorrow (7/28) and August 5th i see limited widespread 90s, im sure we'll tack on a few but not many with a more humid/stormy pattern but Still above normal and quite warm. I do think the period between 8/5 and 8/10 we see the western atlantic ridge build west and hook with the rockies ridge allowing for the potential of sustained heat. I am also watching the analogs 2002, 2006, 1953 where heat spikes have been similar to this year - 1953 late august style heat wave???

the wild card is with you expecting a ridge out in the atlantic - if its in the right position will this create a path up the east coast for any tropical systems that form at a usually greater frequency starting in August ?

The park's starting to fall behind me now; we were neck and neck.

90.1F high here today, giving me 18 days of 90F or higher. Had 4 this week, with an 87F on Wednesday splitting the heat. My average for a year is 18, so above normal is obviously a lock. September most years yields anywhere from nothing to maybe 2 or 3 if it's a hot month. Climo wise, 90F chances drop off considerably post August 25th, so we've got about a month left. Can't believe it; summer goes way too fast. I always say, once 4th of July hits, it's all downhill from there (seems to go much faster).
