Isotherm
since 1941 NYC has seen 88 degrees a few times...One as late as the 19th in 1979 after the earliest snowfall on record...The most 80 degree days in October is eight set in 1954... 1954...8 1963...7 1946...6 1990...6 1931...5 1949...5 1961...5 1968...5 1995...5 2007...5 Yeah 2007 was very warm - green leaves until early November. Looks like the 90s are in the coffin. I'm finishing with 16 days here, basically normal.

IntenseBlizzard2014
EWR: 10 NYC : 8 LGA : 8 JFK : 7 Based on the latest JMA, it is showing below average temperature departures for 60% of the Eastern US for JJA. El Ninos produce wetter conditions (ie September 1982) for a large chuck of the US. Mainly at Southern California through Texas and into the Southeast. At times, there are troughs that swing through the NE and we get strong LPs producing wetter conditions for the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic. So those of you on this topic, beware because if you are planning to go to the beach it won't be good. This Summer could challenge 2009 in terms of temperatures, but the rainfall won't be overbearing like 2009. A weaker Nino this time around will have lesser effects, so a summer like 2009 will be close, but there may be a few more 90s This Summer Vs. 2009. The central theme for this summer is Cool and Dry/Wet and Hot/Dry with Afternoon Thunderstorms (Possibly Severe).

NYC: 13 LGA: 15 EWR: 19 JFK: 8 Slightly below average season 90F wise. Think we'll see a lot of elevated night time lows again with countless days in the 85-90 degree range. Isotherm
Why only one cold-phase analog, 1957? It was the only year that really matched up in terms of other global indicators like the PDO and EPO. 1957, 1986, 1994, and 2004 all had fairly robust +PDO signals in conjunction with a negative -EPO pattern that I expect will continue for the summer. Other cold phase oncoming Nino's such as 1965 and 1972 for example, had solidly negative PDO's. Much different SSTA profile in the Pacific as well among other atmospheric factors. Joseph D'Aleo once had a piece on failed Niños turning into fairly robust summers.

uncle W
Wow, 1962 was frigid. Cold winter, cold summer. If NYC had 8, I probably would have had 0 nights above 70 here. 1962 had 90 degrees the end of April and 99 degrees in May...It got cool the second half of July and it stayed cooler than average until the next Spring...The hot days had lower minimums... JBG
Any chance we don't go over 90 this summer? I know that in Niño summers August tends to run cool.

Stormlover74
Updated as a few spots hit 90 in the last few days. I think I would disregard TEB..they've been running 2-3 degrees above most surrounding stations even EWR
SACRUS
I think I would disregard TEB..they've been running 2-3 degrees above most surrounding stations even EWR Yeah it does seem a bit warm on the borderline days. Maybe the average of TEB/Park is a good blend. :-)
