2003...8

The second warm seasons after 25 or more 90 degree days in Central Park averaged (10.9) 90 degree days vs the annual average of (14.9) days.

I'm surprised that 1953 following 1952 isn't in there. Or 1971 following 1970. Or 1974 following 1973 (not that the latter would have helped). Edited to say I went back and checked links. The summers I mentioned were just barely under the 25 threshold. Still, for example, 1970 and 1973 summers were memorable, albeit concentrated in August/September.

I put together a post 25 or more 90 degree days n NYC warm season list and composite for our area.

All the following years starting with 1950 came after a warm season with 25 or more 90 degree days in NYC

like we had in 2010:

http://www.erh.noaa....s/90degdays.htm

90 degree days

1950...6

1954...17

1956...11

1960...4

1962...18

1967...9

1981...16

1984...10

1989...16

1992....9

1994....19

1996....3

2000...6

2003...8

The second warm seasons after 25 or more 90 degree days in Central Park averaged (10.9) 90 degree days vs the annual average of (14.9) days.

Here are the temperature anomaly composites:

25 or more 90 degree day warm season days in NYC including 2010 summer composite

The following summers composite

Id be curious to see the individual years. I wonder how much 67 and 92 skew the means

I believe NYC had a combined total of 13 days at 88/89 last year which separate them from the other sites with 40/50+ 90 degree days.

The park should have had like 45 last year.

Correct, I made a statistical comparison with the other stations and they all had like 4-5 89 degree days while NYC had twice as much..... NYC should have had 47-48 90 degree days last year.

Awesome 11 year pattern :P How many did 1933 have? 1955 which was a true scorcher should have made it too. Irrespective of how many 90 degree days they had 1933 and 1955 still belong on this list for having multiple 100 degree days.

we had such a rare winter

i don't know how well nina climo is going to fare this summer

I told my wife the same thing. She asked me if it's going to be hot this summer and I told her it shouldn't. Then I told her we were also not supposed to get a crapload of snow either so take it for what's it worth.

I feared the strong la nina would ruin the winter...I think we get off to a warm start with some hot days in May and June like 1956, 1965 and 1996...Does the heat continue into July and August ?...If so it would be a summer like 1999...It's either one extreme or the other...

No doubt 90% of NYC saw 45+ 90 degree days, but for Central Park, the 37 number is probably close correct.

Same thing happened IMBY in Colts Neck -- I recorded 38 90F days total, but about 12-13 days at 88-89.4. More rural areas tend to have a much more difficult time cracking 90.

I remember a few times here on the south shore of western LI we were in the low 90s and you were in the upper 80s lol.... we also had three days of 100+ and NYC only had 2. JFK also had 10 days of 95+ and I think NYC had less than that.

Yeah Alex it was probably on those NW wind days when your area really torches, that you beat me. Many of my near misses were literally less than 0.25-0.5 degrees from 90.

I fear that this will be like the summer of 2000 with strong blocking and limited thunderstorm activity.

1955 had no 100+ days in KNYC. It had a record or close to record number of 95+ days.
