All years where June, July, and August were all negative in both the AO and NAO:

Two years that fit the most according to the summer AO and NAO:

Honestly, the -NAO in summer does not matter nearly as much as the -AO (+.1 correlation from summer to winter vs. +.35)

Sweet, with AO and NAO pretty much a duality in winter, lock that sh. It up.

Thanks brother! 100 miles further east and we'd still be talking about it. Come to think of it....we still are but for a different reason...lol..

Montreals 5 th biggest snowstorm ever, Burlingtons 10 th, interior areas got smoked. Looking back at the second year Ninas with - AO big Marches seem to be pretty common albeit small sample size. As usual really hope we return to the winters of yore that did not end the third week of Feb.

1970-71 was a first year Nina. 69-70 was a Nino right? But if nothing else we're due for a big March.

I always predict 2-3 feet in GC no matter what storm it is.

Well, you are a professional.

4 feet at 2K.

Don't you have some homework to do? Don't say you've done it already because nobody is buyin' it.

Lol, you live on the coastal plain...enjoy your torch, lol, you silly peasant. 22/21 sn-. 18/17 at 2k.

Very very passive aggressive. You guys live in eastern Mass, it's ok, don't be so defensive. So what if it's not as cold and snowy there? Nobody holds it against you.

I wonder what the average first snow at 2k is? Maybe Tuesday 9/20?

Long before you see snow junior.

The AO/NAO is obviously a cojointed entity when discussing New Englands winter. JMHO but again this year the amount of blocking and intensity will allow enough cold to make for a sweet winter scene. The pinned thread on the front page by HM gives a detailed look at the effects the Pacific and AO has on positioning of the main players. The gradient thread discusses much in detail. Figuring out where exactly the dividing line between awesome and meh is always the toughest part of LR in a NINA -PDO environment. Sustained blocking this winter might be in the cards, if the block is strong enough the MA cashes in, if the SE ridge is strong then the MA has only occasional bouts of real winter. It appears to me that this is CNE NNE's year for a huge winter. The negative PNA rollover ridge favors them to cash in much better than NYC south.

I hadn't been in the main forum since the tropics died so I didn't realize such an excellent thread was available. I wish I had read that before I posted because it does change some of my thinking about what to expect in my area of the MA.

I'm not too worried about a strong SE ridge setting up camp for long durations. It will likely show its face at times but not bust our winter down here. I think it is safe to say that we will have our chances for cold and snow but NE does seem to look pretty good (I'm used to that pretty much every winter. lol).

I feel pretty comfortable saying that strong blocking will occur from time to time this winter and that should allow the storm track to be surpressed enough at times to allow us MA weenies to have some fun. Can't really ask for much more than that living just south of 40N.

You don't see the irony in all of this? lol

You are getting ribbed for having the same old material for 3 years.

The maps posted in here give you some hope, neg AO summers are usually preconditions for cold everywhere winters. That is an awesome thread that was in our sub forum before the mods moved it to main to try to attract readers to the main. Obviously not working. SNE is where you want to check for similar rocking threads this winter. Good stuff Mr Chill.

We got some good replies from Wes after we moved it. But a lot of the good stuff that was already going to be said was said before we moved it. It was good to move it.

Plus we have a rep to keep in here of being the crappiest subforum on the site, so we can't have good discussion threads staying in here. Might ruin it.

Knew you would reply, just threw that up for giggles, awesome thread of which some of your finest thoughts posted are inside. Thank you.
