couldn't post all day was tied up at work--

But I wanted to chime in about this "mystery" snow we keep getting up here. It snowed about 3/4ths of an inch overnight--around midnight to 1 am here in Pittston--Nothing on the radar, no lake effect bands nearby...just beautifully formed snowflakes-a very dry snow too. Looked fake on my windshield. Lake effect is a strange beast.

Hey, first off I wanted to say I've been enjoying your stories on wnep. You're doing good.

Also, there has been a lot of odd snow showers. It's just mostly Lake Effect and such resulting from this cold air and the winds coming from the lakes. It's just a really good setup to have all these showers enhanced from the lakes. The lakes are still very warm and we got this sudden cold shot of air, perfect for the lakes to throw moisture into the atmosphere. As for not showing up on radar, I guess it's just the nature of the little beasts. Also, BGM radar is down. ;)

Probably the fact that lake effect produces very high ratios, if it's relatively light, radar would have a hard time detecting it. Sometimes clear air radar actually works better, because it's more sensitive.

Yes, but BGM radar is down too, and that covers the area Jim was mentioning. Jim, did it show up on WNEP Doppler radar?

Left for work at 0530 this morning. Nothing on ground here in Easton. Once I hit Phillipsburg, NJ there was a coating on the roads and the crews had salted the roads. Coating of snow on the ground all the way to Hackettstown, NJ, then barely anything by the time I got to Mt Arlington. Just goes to show how little moisture you need when it is this cold. I want to see how these flurries/snow shower produce in the wake of the next, colder front.

Some parts of Easton had a slight coating on my way in to work (College Hill, to 13th St). Parts of Forks Twp. had a solid 1"+, but here in Martins Creek I barely had a dusting. I think it happened around 11PM last night, according to my daughter. I heard north towards Bangor, nothing. Very localized. Hoping for more lake effect around here next week!
