Voyager Posted December 9, 2010 Share Posted December 9, 2010 It's amazing how much more snow you guys get in Hazleton and Freeland-- I was in Freeland on Monday doing a story and it was truly the FARGO of PA-- like 2 inches of wind-driven snow, temps around 20, wind gusts to like 30-40 mph. Got back to Pittston it was in the low 30s, much calmer winds, and oh, look in the street light, is that a flurry? Remember a couple years back when Freeland got that freak 16" October snowstorm? ChescoWx Posted December 9, 2010 Share Posted December 9, 2010 As for most locales the coldest morning of the year here in NW Chesco AM Low 17.7 Based on 6z runs current Wxsim forecast has a wintry mix on Sunday becoming all snow here in the NW Philly burbs...temps never get above 35 during the event and begin sliding during the PM Sunday. Much less precip though then previously modeled as only under a 1/2 inch of liquid is there. All this will change to a more wet version with the 12z runs this AM....as the models turn! They have been furiously making snow the last few nights at Spring Mountain. It was nice to see the snowmaking machines at full blast as I drove past there at 8:30 this morning. My high temps the past 5 days... Friday 12/3: 39 Saturday 12/4: 38 Sunday 12/5: 37 Monday 12/6: 35 Tuesday 12/7: 35 Wednesday 12/8: 34 I'm thinking we get to 33 here today, based on the trend. Took rt 512 home, a good solid coating of snow about 5-8 miles south of Wind Gap, maybe up to 1/2" in spots, laying on pavement as well. The roads are plastered with salt too... I am generally much warmer than many locations south of me, including today's 13 at ABE. Not sure why this is, except that maybe my sensor is too close to the house or the fact that I'm less than a block away from the Little Schuylkill River.
