So I went outside to watch the storm that was coming for me. I get some decent shelf cloud pictures but realize it didn't do much except maybe a 20-25mph gust if that. Come in, checked the radar loop....it basically died right as it came into town and then created what I call now a "Donut hole of death" right over the Des Moines area (mostly northern part but as it died and moved north it created that death hole south to north over town)

Still have yet to get past 66.

Not sure of your location...But I assume its in the central states so I'm sure by June you will baking in the sun well past 66 degrees. I don't think it should shock any of us that we have a potential "cool" snap lurking considering its still early May. This time of spring is littered with cool snaps and torches. My Birthday is on the 18th so I seriously can remember many cool/chilly May 18ths..In fact the majority of them were cool/chilly so too me this is more than normal!!! If not expected

Pretty cool. I have never seen hail even come close to covering the ground here. It's tough just to get any hail at all here.

Nice Accumulating hail Baro! Yep, the most hail I've seen IMBY was pea size hail here and there.

Wow! Very impressive.

It came down for about 5 mins--but it was raining hail. I called in the LSR to the office--and they got nothing there. The office is about 5 miles to the east of my location.

Freezing levels are only 8612' AGL, but still, I have never seen hail come down that hard in quite a long time. Pretty awesome stuff considering the non-supercellular nature of the storms!

That much hail on the ground would probably be enough to lower the ambient temps a bit I would assume. That's a hell of a lot of ice.:guitar:

Nice pic. I've only seen that a couple times. One time there were still small piles remaining 6 hours later. :guitar:

It was still in a pile for a bit--but we are getting a ton of rain now. All melting now :( It was pretty neat picking it up and running it through your hands. Literally felt like beads.

Baro's pics remind me of a family vaca to the black hills back in the day. We drove up into the hills and noticed large white piles in shaded areas, i thought they were left over snow patches, but turns out it was leftovers from what must have been an epic hail storm.

This is kinda funny. A couple days ago I used the word "pulsy" (which I wasn't even sure was a word) to describe the thunderstorms since the meaning was obvious. I'm reading the IND afd and notice this:

THE ONLY FORCING MECHANISM TO SPEAK OF WOULD BE DIURNALLY CHARGED CONVECTION AS A WEAK S/WV MOVES ACROSS LATE IN THE AFTERNOON...WHICH BASED ON THE AVAILABLE DATA ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DO POP UP SHOULD BE SHORT LIVED AND "PULSY" IN NATURE SINCE SHEAR PROFILES LOOK UNIMPRESSIVE.

I looked it up in the dictionary and it is not a word.

This is a very difficult pattern for temperature predictions. Evolution of the omega can be a pain(looks painful on the maps, like a pitcher with bad bad mechanics lol) for models to forecast. I suspect reduced maxes with less low mins.

Frankly, I don't care how much cooler it get. Just to get rid of this awful summer weather with no ac. I don't mind it in June, but mid-May? It has run its course. There are some hints of another heat release by the end of the month.........bleh.

Without a doubt the region cools down. The duration is whats in question. Who knows maybe 7+ days more or less ATM.

Still have yet to get past 66.

Next week you might be looking at a wicked plant and tree leaf killing freeze...Looks serious come Mon and Tue night. The dew points easily look mid 20's up your way. You'll have bare trees into July once the frozen leaves fall off. Let's hope not but it does look sh*tty for the next 2 weeks. Theme for summer I'm betting.
