I noticed this low on Thursday and Friday coming across us again, probably not a lot of moisture to work with but hey, we're 7 days away!

That is not a low pressure area in the sense you are referring to, 1025mb is considered HP. Look at the difference between that and the high just to the north, 1mb... What the model is showing you is a local minimum in pressure, they do that sometimes, and you would want something on the order of <1010mb to squeeze out some RN, generally speaking in regards to lp areas.

Allan Huffman updated his blog. Says we might get some snow Saturday night, but it's about time to write off any big storm for the middle of next week. Of course, there is something else to look at for 10 days out again. LOL!

10:20am Webcam Shot showing snow covered valleys from top of Beech Mountain looking towards Grandfather Mountain.

It will be nice of the ground can stay snow covered up through Advent leading into Christmas. With the below normal cold, some good upslope snow and perhaps a genuine snowstorm in the upcoming 2 weeks, the odds are for it.

If you have not gotten your Christmas Tree yet, come on up to the High Country and cut one with real snow on it!

25 this morning here. I forgot to mention, I ended up with 2.4 inches with the last system. Good thing too, looks cold and dry for a while. In fact, the cold looks impressive..both in intensity and longevity. Should be seeing some teens for lows next week with highs only in the 30s.

22 here now and snow is mentioned in the Sat. night forecast!

I would be pretty surprised if any fell in georgia, even in the mountains. Way too warm and there doesn't seem to be much post frontal moisture. Maybe some token flurries in the mountains but that's about it...and that's being generous imo.

The Euro has a pretty decent damming situation on its 240. But eh, you know now how the 10 day goes. It does want to keep the eastern block going with the 50/50 mostly in place and a big system forming in the southern plains or western Gulf by then.

Yeah, I've been watching that time frame for a few days. The models have been hinting at the possibility around that time frame on some runs. But they don't seem to hold on to it from run to run.

thanks for busting our bubble lol. i rarely expect accumulating snow in dec in ga, but i count snow flurries as georgia snow - even in dec! then you had to go and snatch the bone away :lmao:

i am just glad its cold, and may be that way a while. at least if we can get a couple of shots of cold air this winter, we will have a chance for something frozen.

I will look into my floodlights for a flurry or two. Saw them yesterday so maybe it can happen again.

Um, no. Posts like these aren't helpful if they aren't based on any reasoning other than wishing.

Soundings clearly are too warm and the models show it rapidly dries out by the time any cold air arrives for north ga.

There doesn't even look to be much cloud cover...other than maybe some high level cirrus. Don't think that will cut it lol
