Buckethead
Down to 14.2 just south of CAE and still falling. The faucet out by my back porch is frozen solid again. It stays in the shade all the time, so it might not be repairable until Thursday. That's the same faucet that made the really nice ice sculpture over 4 days last January, I'm starting to think the pipe insulation I use isn't very effective. RevDodd
18 in Faynam...missed the record for the date, set back in '54, but it was still a three-dog (OK, two dogs and a cat) night here.
DaculaWeather
6:35 here and I'm at 16.7 and STILL falling at 1.5 deg/hr. We've been hitting our low sometime around 7-7:30 so we'll see how low it can go.
Itunis
Parting shot before hitting the sack- 06Z GFS has backed off on the cold air by a fair amount...... Not by a whole lot IMO...it shows us getting -16C 850s instead of -18C. 22 here, there is a pretty noticeable west to east temp gradient that you don't tend to see that often with places farther east being the coldest. It's not very often we have this type of cold several days in a row outside of the mountains and the mountains stay cold as well. Beech Mtn reporting a current temp of 4. I use to get up and go to gym everyday at 5am, since we had our 9month old i have been twice. Mornings like this I do not miss it. Poimen
^yeah, sleep is a precious commodity when you have an infant in the house! I never know when I'm going to get a full nights sleep. Temp has fallen to 15.5 here...now that the sun is coming up this should be the bottom. I still have snow on the ground in shady areas.

But do need to go back It is rough on a good weather day, let alone bone chilling cold. Looked and as of today for December both RDU and PTI are about -8.6 departure from normal for December. Also just checked the NAO forecast on all models and it stays negative through 12/24, which is as far out as it goes. Looking at fantasy land on the models no above normal, actually normal temp weather all the way out. I'm gonna wait until middle next week after our next artic plunge and stack up where we are as far as all time coldest December ever. By middle of next week we can glance out to the 31st on the models and confirm the liklyhood that no big pattern shift is in the making. Right now its probably pre-mature, but i'd say we have a 75%+ chance recording the coldest December on record for our area.
DaculaWeather
This is almost perfect timing for us today. The clouds have started moving in while we're at our lowest temp and just before the sun starts to try to warm things up. We might be lucky to get above freezing today. Buckethead
14° here this morning...... Screw this, I want summer back. Every summer I say "screw this, give me winter...at least if I'm cold, I can layer up and be more comfortable..." Not so much. I say give me 65-70 until mother nature decides to give us snow.
