Was looking forward to relaxing on the porch & enjoy the new ferns, but whew...it's a hot one out there! Current Temp - 95 & DP - 62

I was just thinking the same thing, as the falcon is overhead checking out the bird feeders for his next meal  The airport here is showing 98/64 :sun:

I love the ferns

Speaking of this heat...sure have heard about alot of snakes the last 2 days....and I am TERRIFIED of them...anyone know of a good way to repel them?? Father in law had one in his pool yesterday and another of a different type today....and NO I have not seen any of them....family knows better than to show me the pics....I will have nightmares...I am serious....If I had been in the pool yesterday when it swam over my sis-in-law's leg.....I would have been added to the list of Jesus and Peter in the walkiing on water club....that would have been followed by a one way trip to Stirffler-Hamby Mortuary.

96 is the high for today (matched with the current heat index) here with a 66 DP. This is one of those days where I just want to go jumping into a pool no matter how cool the water is, and to think tomorrow it gets worse with upper 90s possible to around 100 in some locations...:yikes:

High Temperatures tomorrow afternoon

Thanks much, Buckeye! Knew you would look out for me. I need some help...father-in-law is willing to try anything that has a chance at working.....I think this heat has something to do with it....2 in his pool, other sis-in-law's dog killed one today....and they all know to tell me and not SHOW me...even my nieces and nephews know not to show me....seems I have PSTD from an incident in childhood....I fear snakes more than tornadoes.

an outdoor cat might help. Most likely though you'll still see them, as "gifts" on your doorstep. I don't mind them, but almost picked up a copperhead a couple weeks ago by mistake (looked like a limb). The big spiders coming in now and every Summer is what I never can get used to. I have lots of mulch beds and they love those, and even though I've caulked and weatherstripped everywhere, they still come in somehow. A large one was under the cover a few nights ago when I was about to go to bed. Huge wolf spider.

Anytime Psalm  Other than just keeping the yard free from any debris piles and clear of rodents, I'm not sure there is anything else you can do. If you don't have either in your yard, then they are probably just passing threw. I know that doesn't help much. :(

ok...I will now ck the covers before I go to bed....We have not really had the spider issue so much....hubby says his dad's pool will always attract snakes becuase of water.....When I asked him how to keep the snakes away his answer was "cement"...what the heck??

He said "fill the pool up with cement and they won't come." goof ball...then we wouldn't have a pool either....Been in the family 20 years and never seen this many this close together...some years we haven't seen any. Maybe if this extreme heat will go away they will too. Thanks for the help Buckeye and Foothills.

Those guys get really big... I killed two about 2 hours apart from each other the other day, they were shockingly big..... Disgusting, I hate spiders with a passion, I guess another reason I despise summer.

You are the one who started this nonsense.

And we don't have damp grounds here. The ground is dry as a bone.. That could enhance the heat tomorrow

You have received more rainfall than mby has had to date, and the soil in mby has more moisture this year than the past 3yrs combined.

Seems to me like you were calling me a liar. And then you backed up my point by showing a map that has me almost in a severe drought.

I too have noticed an increase in the number of snakes I've seen this year. The first time I really noticed it was last fall when my favorite black lab got bit by a copperhead. I was cutting the grass when I saw her jump back from the brush near our house. I didn't think much of it until that night when she became very lethargic and droopy. I immediately put the two together and we rushed her to the emergency vet. They treated her and then told us it had been a copperhead. We brought her home the next day and I immediately went out with my dad and found it in the bushes nearby. I rarely hurt animals but I was so pissed at this thing... :gun_bandana: :gun_bandana: :banned:

Unfortunately we saw another copperhead about a month ago, aswell as some other smaller snakes. Don't know what we are gonna do. Good luck and hope they steer clear of your house!

:gun_bandana: :gun_bandana: You were not thanked

:lmao::facepalm:

Psalm, my three snake solvers of choice would be a pellet rifle, frog gig, and 22 rifle. Most of the ones you get in the pool are water snakes. I grew up with a pool and thats all we ever got. Theres no cure for them other than death be it from humans or other animals.

Snowsorm, you wont win many friends taking on Buckeye. Its saying something that you have riled her up.

These two have met death by shovel....13 yr old neice helped my father-in-law kill them...the big one was a north Ga something or other....the other not sure...it was only about 8 inches...Buckeye had my back....snowstorm apparently thought he was helping....but all he did was send me a pm with the same link in it :banned: ....thankfully, Buckeye prescreened it for me and told me about the picture I would have seen....Buckeye and I go a ways back....I know she will take care of me.

Well... This month will finish with much above normal temperatures for Columbus.... After hearing from my chief (and looking it up), I noticed last year we didn't get 95+ until June 12. This year, we hit 96 on May 22, though we hit 94 May 10-12... Also, looking at last years summer (since I wasn't working here yet needed to research a few summers), I sure as heck hope this ridge of ours breaks down as the GFS is attempting to do in the LONG range, because I don't think I can handle a month straight of 95+.... arrowheadsmiley.png

Get ready for a HOT HOT HOT one tomorrow west central GA/east central AL folks... as we will more than likely touch the century mark tomorrow sizzle.gif with no rain really in sight until late Thursday where a pop up shower may develop.
