I hope people in Uptown Charlotte is aware of what's going on. Speed Street began today in Uptown, I bet there are a ton of people out and about at this hour.

well all the media in that market I watched today downplayed the storm til after festivities were over. Now there's a tornado warning. Once again, the momentum of Tstorm lines coming out of the mountains proved true. The models didnt' catch that line, and forecasters who believed the models hook , line and sinker missed out. This makes about 3 or 4 big events here in the Charlotte market that wasn't caught on to until too late..not really belittling, just noting. Its a bad storm here, just ending. and just got the power back on. I'd say for lightning alone its a top 10 storm. My dad just called from Shelby, no power there. 2 (maybe 3) of the top thunderstorms of my lifetime have all occured in the last 2 months.

Gonna be close for you no way it gets to me lol, pwat nosedive to under a inch from about Columiba to the east, the line should hit the wall just to your west.......

Isn't that usually the way it goes? I'm surprised the line has made it this far, wicked lightning to my west, but no thunder just yet.....patiently waiting

Nice to see you adding to your May total, even if it was a little breezy

It's about time! :thumbsup::hug:

Well, it only gave me a quarter inch, but I stood out under the awning, and faced west into the hardest wind I've seen in 25 years, to include the hurricane/tropical storm that tried to stuff my shed in though the bathroom window back in the 90's. It was so loud I couldn't hear any trees falling, but I expect they are out there.

Got to go outside for a show like that.

I got a half inch tornado night, a half a week later, and now a quarter. Not going to get too excited by that. N. Ga. has been doing way better than down here. All I want is for a benign tstorm to rain out over me and give me 2 or 3 inches. No wind, no hail, no nothing but rain, lol. T

I do have to give some credit to the 13z HRRR earlier, as it did an exceptionally great job with both the coverage and timing of the developing squall line tonight across NC/SC. I mean it doesn't get any better for convective verification than this!

As for me, I only ended up with about .05" of rainfall here on the NW side of Asheville. The storms literally died and reformed further east as they crossed over Buncombe county. I think the culprit this time was the distinct lack of CAPE over the French Broad River valley earlier today.

Extremely impressive storm! I believe at one point, the winds were topped at least 83mph here. Lawn chairs, trashcan, car cover, and several small tree branches have come down in my yard. At one point, lightning had nearly struck the house (I'd say about 110 feet away) ending with a tremendous boom. From the looks of the velocities images posted, my house wasn't too far away when the rotation got going. Too close for comfort. :yikes: Even now, I'm still receiving a good bit of lightning. This is going in my top 5 for severe thunderstorms this year.

This line is now moving off, but it is still raining heavily. Radar looks to show the rain passing by within another hour or two. But, is rain supposed to redevelop overnight and in the morning in the mountains and foothills? Will there be upsloping winds on the east side of the Apps contributing to rainfall?

I just checked the gauge and I'm at 0.65 inches for an hour and a half of rain. Not bad!

judging from wind reports, mine wasn't all that impressive at 45mph. Once the rain is over I'll check the gauge, it looks like over an inch. Still pouring and some new bolts have developed pretty close by.

edit. Have had .46"

Line is rapidly falling apart. Possible I won't get anything at all.

We were hammered over here in Belmont (southern Belmont). Trees down EVERYWHERE. i posted some pics from my mobile phone on FB. I will upload pics tomorrow, during the day. Robert G...do you think a Tornado touched down in my area?? There was some rotation on radar during the height of the storm...

Here are a few pictures from my local spotting/chase in NW Georgia... this was in Cartersville... great lightning shot I got earlier:

And then I got a great shelf cloud in between Fairmount and Jasper:

Finally, we got a weakly rotating wall cloud 2-3 miles east of Fairmount, GA from the next storm in line. This looked to be a weak supercell trying to get its act together. Broad rotation on radar and it was exactly in the area we saw the wall cloud, so I am positive that was exactly what it was from experience:

On a side note, SOFTBALL sized hail was reported and confirmed in Fannin County near Morganton, GA... that is unheard of for this area. Was surprised the updrafts could get that robust in this marginal environment today. Impressive. Must have been some interesting mesoscale stuff going on in that concentrated area because numerous baseballs were reported just southeast in Ellijay as well.

3 storm related deaths in Atlanta this evening. Two elderly women were killed when a tree fell on their car.

My sis and eight year old nephew, who live in Atlanta (Buckhead), were lucky to not get hurt as a large tree fell on their family room just as they were leaving the house. Damage to that room was significant and it was a very scarey moment. Thank goodness they're ok. This spring has been terrible in general in terms of lost lives, injuries, and destruction. Enough is enough!
