Are these storms expected to weaken some as the night goes on?

Though some of these storms will lose their steam, they will still be potent to an extent so I wouldn't let my guard down. Nocturnal convection has proven to be equally dangerous in some cases, given the correct setup. I know that for my area, these storms are forecast to remain strong sometime after midnight. We'll just have to keep an eye on radar to see how this evolves.

That was a great storm! Heavy rain, high winds, and lots lightning. I would estimate we had some gusts around 40 mph. There one strong gust in particular that knocked the power out for about 10 seconds. We picked up around .25" and its still raining. I'll post some pics later.

Edit: WOAH Big boomer just shook the house.

omg, much needed rain about to pour from the sky. I could not be happier. Limited severe weather with rains!!!!!

glad to see your area (and most of GA) getting some good storms. the nam actually developed a low and higher coverage tonight for much of northeastern third of GA from ATL to AHN, but haven't seen the latest runs. Hopefully some of this makes it up here.

Ohhhhweeee, talk about your straight line winds! Man, when that line come through it was gusting 70 easy, and the biggest might have been more. That was like that derecho a few years back, only stronger. Man...not much rain, maybe a 1/4, but got the wind in spades!! T

Strong southeast upslope shown right now over the Carolinas. The NAM and GFS have this continuing, suprisingly long time, and even develop small low and circulation early Friday over northern GA , generateing quite a wet day for north GA and most of western halves of Carolinas, as the whole thing goes slightly neg. tilt. The offshore ridge holds everything west, atleast thats the models showing, but in reality it may get just east of where they have it, we'll see. Both paint a good rain event , can't believe it would happen here, but I could buy it for western foothills and mountains and GA.

From earlier in the day... Clouds really starting to rise.

Awesome cloud formations that moved through right before the main storm. They had a news reporter, who obviously wasn't accustomed to watching the weather, report a funnel cloud with this exact cloud.:facepalm:

Looks like the upslope turned the pop up cells severe extremely quickly in western SC and NC, about the fastest I've seen upslope flow +prefrontal trough do that before. The whole area there may congeal into a big rainmaker over the next few hours, with upslope remaining, and if the models are right about the next 5H s/w and the slight neg. tilt, could be a very good rain event most of western Carolinas and ne GA tonight.

one just developed to my north by 5 miles...en route to the northern mtns. Very strong southeasterly/southerly flow right now. The RUC holds this flow as 3 more strong vortmax rotate or wobble really into the southern Apps the next 18 hours. Be sad if the rain never fully makes it here, but thats how it goes a lot of time with the strong southerly/se flow. I won't be surprised to see a flood watch issued in western NC and ne GA, maybe much of north GA, before the night is over, unless huge gaps develop. All models keep plenty of lift and RH going there through tomorrow, but convection can always short someone.

Woooo HOOOOOO!!!!!! I just get mega-slammed. Best storm I've ever experience imby. 10 straight minutes of hail, with the biggest stones falling at the tail end; around golf ball size. Enough to coat the ground!!!! The winds when the storm arrived were 60+ easy. numerous limbs down in my yard and a tree across the road about 100 yds away. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
