Thanks! We are trying to get some more people following... there is both a Twitter Account and a Facebook Page. Shameless plug I know, but we are looking to increase viewership in the Carolinas!

Even though I'm in GA I'll like you Facebook page for sure!

On topic now... Very nasty storm south of Chatsworth, GA. Golf ball sized hail marker on it.

Yep, a couple of nasty storms in Tennessee and Alabama right now too. This first round of severe weather will be more discrete so we should be able to get some decent mesocyclones capable of producing large hail. The Vertically Integrated Liquid is rather impressive thus far with the strongest cells exceeding 70 kg/m².

Even though I'm not in the Asheville market, as long as you keep discussing the piedmont and foothills as well, I'm up for a good read. I'll echo the sentiments on the graphics...well done. I realize it's hard to cater to many different areas, but I thought you did a good job discussing most of western/central NC/SC.

Thanks! It has really turned more into a regional blog rather than just focusing on Asheville, despite the name indicating otherwise, so I'l likely be covering other areas across the Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia for those that might be interested.

Beginning to see good firing of convection back across AL. The air mass in the warm sector continues to gradually destabilize with steepening low/mid-level lapse rates and dewpoints ranging from the low 60s to around 70, especially across southern MS and AL. The deep layer wind field will support an organized QLCS as the main storm mode with embedded supercellular development for spots but our main concern should be, for the most part, the accompanying wind and hail with these storms. Storms should really get going later this afternoon and through the evening hours as the cold front progresses eastward.

First two images are from a program called F5 (free version).

IN THE WAKE OF A STRONG TO LOCALLY SEVERE TSTM CLUSTER PROGRESSING

ACROSS ERN TN...NUMEROUS TSTM CLUSTERS APPEAR TO BE FORMING SWWD TO

THE CNTRL GULF COAST. DESPITE THIS INCREASE IN TSTM COVERAGE...THE

NEED FOR A SEVERE TSTM WATCH S/SW OF WW 379 IS UNCLEAR ATTM WITH

SPORADIC THREATS OF MARGINALLY SEVERE DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL.

17Z SUBJECTIVE SURFACE ANALYSIS PLACED A SW TO NE ORIENTED

TROUGH/CONFLUENCE AXIS FROM JUST 20 S HSV TO 30 S JAN. TSTMS HAVE

RECENTLY INCREASED ALONG AND AHEAD OF THIS AXIS IN ASSOCIATION WITH

A WEAK UPPER IMPULSE OVER SERN MS EMBEDDED WITHIN THE BASE OF THE

LARGER-SCALE TROUGH. EFFECTIVE SHEAR OF 25 TO 35 KT WILL LIKELY PEAK

IN THE NEAR-TERM WITH SHORT-TERM MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTING

LOW/MID-LEVEL FLOW WILL WEAKEN THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AS THE HEIGHT

GRADIENT RELAXES. DESPITE A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIR MASS...OVERALL

SETUP SHOULD YIELD SPORADIC REPORTS OF DAMAGING WIND AND MARGINALLY

SEVERE HAIL. AN ADDITIONAL WW TO THE S MAY NOT BE NECESSARY UNLESS A

MORE ORGANIZED MCS/QLCS EVOLVES LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

Can't help but focus my attention on the storms down in Montgomery. Looks like that large area of convection will travel up the 85 cooridor and impact ATL and even points east. Currently the watch area is W and NW of ATL, but I think given the daytime heating and instability that watch area will be moved East.

Looks like all systems go

Temp of 88 IMBY

Cape between 2000-2500+

LI is -8

DP - mid 60's

Looking for my rains and storms to be incoming soon!

What a difference daytime heating makes!

Edited to add: Seems like early on storms are popping 1-2 miles to my west then exploding about 10 miles north...

That area in Alabama looks very juicy :pepsi: Would be great to see N GA get 1-2 hours of heavy rain.

Hot dog! It's raining at the house. I only wish I was there to see it. The only bad part is I have to cut grass soon.

lol. Get home soon cause it looks as if theres more on the way!

Another North Ga newbie. Been lurking for a while & registered during the late April outbreak.

Here in Stephens Co we were just added to the T-Storm Watch til 6pm.

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 379

CONTINUES.

THREAT FOR SUPERCELLS WILL INCREASE DOWNSTREAM OF INITIAL WW 379

ACROSS PORTIONS OF WRN NC/SC AND NERN GA. EXTENSION OF THE WW HAS

BEEN COORDINATED WITH WFO GSP.

AS OF 1930Z...THE MOST INTENSE TSTMS WITHIN WW 379 WERE LOCATED FROM

SEVIER COUNTY TN TO GILMAN COUNTY GA...WHERE REPORTS OF

BASEBALL-SIZED HAIL OCCURRED EARLIER WITH A SUPERCELL TRACKING

ACROSS GILMAN COUNTY. 0-6 KM SHEAR AOA 40 KT SHOULD REMAIN CONFINED

N OF THE ATLANTA LATITUDE...REMAINING FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELL

STRUCTURES. DOWNSTREAM DEW POINTS HAD INITIALLY MIXED INTO THE

MIDDLE 40S AND 50S...BUT APPEAR TO BE RECOVERING WITH MODEST SLY

LOW-LEVEL FLOW. THIS SHOULD SUPPORT AT LEAST AN ISOLATED THREAT FOR

SEVERE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS TO GRADUALLY EVOLVE EWD THROUGH 22Z.
