I was looking at that cam earlier this morning and now again. It does look like a few big wet flakes occasionally if you watch it long enough, but hard to say if thats just drops in the foreground dripping off the trees or the front of the camera itself. The meso maps don't have it quite cold enough yet there, but I guess if any enhanced lifting occured it could be just barely cold enough to bring a few flakes to the surface.

Just Got back from my trip... actually was quite surprised to see snowflakes starting to mix in at around 5500 feet, with mainly snow falling above 6000 feet. I was fortunate enough to remember to bring a kestrel on my journey today in order to track when the precipitation started to change over. Here are a few photos from the trip! I imagine the snow level has dropped further tonight, but most of the precipitation is now confined to the far northern NC mountains. There might be another round of precipitation tonight as the vortices start to merge into one large cutoff low... although I don't think we will see as substantial of a precipitation shield as the coverage we experienced earlier today.

As for back at my place... we ended up with .54" today. As for the high... We were 50.4 degrees at midnight, and we haven't escaped the 40's all day, even in the French Broad River valley! Thats rather impressive for the middle of may!

Thanks Phil! I knew I should have road tripped! Good call Foothills. Yep WK27, I looked just now and that's definitely snow at Beech slopeside. Looks like its coming down at a pretty good clip! hope they get some accumulation and beat their record. I think they are only an inch or so short.

Please ya'll upstate send some of those rains to the Coast down here! Were around a 5 1/2 inch deficit, with only traces of rain for the Month of May excluding yesterday, recieving, around . .06. & .02 respectivly, for, or I should say out of this system... The past 2 Days.

me and My GF were at the pier looking Inland and you could see the T-Storm Tops, or can i say "outflow"? from the T-stormsas the system approached from the system inland, with Cumlus Clouds building in a Line up & Down the coast where the Sea Breeze was setting up. I guess WE here had a convective cap, I'm assuming, because, almost *always*, the Seabreeze would help kick up some T-storms, but didn't. Wish i had the Camera w/me, as It would of been a cool as all shot of the Sea Breeze front/clouds. From the end of the Pier Looking inland

This morning currently a pleasent 58/partly couldy Skies.

on a Good note, fishing has been fairly good. In fact, Took My GF on Her second Time ever, (Rookie), King Fishing from the pier, and She WHOOPed up on the Guys, loosing a estimated 25+ pound King, (piling wrap), Only to be vindicated, by decking a 10 pound Bluefish AND a 16 pound King!

Her pics are at the bottom of the linked Page---> on the bottom left http://www.facebook....89.275406617942 Yes, I'm the one armed guy 3rd from the bottom left, I caught a 12 pound blue.

Below is a obs link from NWS-Mobile. Check out some of the low temps. this am. Crestview, FL dropped to 38! My low in in Weaverville was 42. Amazing temps. for that part of the south at this time of year.

Wow 38 in Florida! That has to be a record for this time of the year!

the NAM did pretty well a couple days out with the cold temps for the lee areas. CLT had a high of 59 (early) and GSP 57. 51 in AVL, and it had temps in the 30's in the higher elevations and the warming in northeast GA....not sure how the MAV worked out.

Yea the NAM was superior to the GFS over the last several days. Temperatures at 800mb (around the elevation of 6200 feet where I witnessed the snowfall) were forecasted around 2 degrees C on the NAM, while it was more like 4-6 degrees C from the GFS. Considering temperatures fell below freezing for a time at Mt. Mitchell at 6200 feet overnight, I'd say the NAM was a lot closer to reality.

Picked up another .19 yesterday :weight_lift: Even heard a couple rumbles of thunder  I'm enjoying this last day of cooler temps before the furnace kicks in once again :sun:

Well, after the world ends on Sat. I'm hoping next week will be even cooler, with more clouds :) I have rather enjoyed most of this month so far. Except for that string of horrid 90's I've felt pretty cool and sleeping nights has been easy under blankets with the windows open. I'm hoping for more of the same in June and July...I've never seen low 40's in June that I can remember, and I'd like to see that :) T

yea...that string of 90's smacked me head on....I was having field day with the kids....and thanks to this wonderful fewer-days-longer-school-day calendar...that today was the LAST day of prasie the Lord!!!! ......I was stuck outside from 11:15-3:40 with the kids...few of them got sick from the heat....and I wasn't far off from it...we have NO shade on our field...It was most miserable....I have enjoyed this week incredibly.

Heavy Snow on Beech Mountain tonight. Persistent drizzle here in Wilkes.

Wow! Very cool! :)

I am heading up to the Jefferson area tomorrow to go canoeing, so hopefully the weather will cooperate, which it appears that it will. It may be a little chilly, but that's better than the alternative.

Out of school already? We have one more week here, the last day for teachers is the Tuesday after Memorial Day. I have to work until the end of June though...

Got robbed from this system. For whatever reasons it just didn't produce the coverage or amount of rain that was forecast. In fact I saw only one good storm and it dropped about .30 and thats it. My total for the month so far is about .60 and with the heat thats coming next week i'm thinking we will start to see some browning grass here across the eastern parts of the state.

The last two days have been WINNING wx for May for walking here. Very pleasant low RH's allowing for nearly sweatless walking.

Today should be almost as good for walking and still very good for 5/19 although a bit warmer than yesterday.

I will be at the lake this weekend working on my tan, doing a little fishing, some tubing, while waiting for the fireworks to arrive  It would make my summer to see lows in the 40's or 50's with a nice cold rain  It's a beautiful day today currently in the mid 70's with a cool breeze, perfect for mid May :sun:

Where in Jefferson? What river? I have a mountain house in Jefferson.

My family owns these properties:
