buckeyefan1
This picture brought back vivid memories for me of the Xenia tornado. If there was an old oak tree in front of this monster, it would look exactly like I remember standing in my front yard just before my neighborhood and town was destroyed. I never thought I would compare anything to that day. My heart goes out to all the people in Tuscaloosa as I know the destruction and recovery will take many years, but those memories will last a lifetime. Special thanks to the SE Crew for the excellent information and discussion during this outbreak
NGTim
if the tv mets were correct, and if I interpretted it correctly, the same cell that put down the tornado in Tuscaloosa passed through N. Lumpkin Co. last night sometime around midnight. I watched that storm via the lightning from my porch looking out over the mountain range that follows the app trail (long distance view). I thought I saw a post that Suches may have had some damage? but can't find anything to that effect on the news. The nws has no tornado tracks in that area, so just wondering if anyone has any obs from up that way. At any rate, didn't see a funnel, but you could tell from the lightning bouncing off the clouds, where the main storm and energy was, it was an awesome show and I felt that what I was watching was powerful and historic. Not to overstate the obvious, but while it was an awesome thing to witness, I feel for those who were affected by this entire system.

downeastnc
Looks like that T warned cell might have some legs radar presentation getting much better and the couplet looks decent I wouldnt be surprised to see confimation of at least a funnel on this its right over I-95 about to cross into NC. South of the Border is right there I believe if this thing is on the ground it will pass very close to there.
Dunkman
The whole group of storms seems to really be firing, there is a TVS in the cell over Rockingham now. edit: Well I just saw that on wundermap..pulled up the GRLevel3 and it doesn't look particularly impressive. The one in Robeson county sure does though.

Dunkman
I really hope that cell isn't producing the rotation did end up going right over South of the Border. It doesn't really look like it is, the rotation is fairly weak, but I can't decide if it's actually weak or if everything looks small after spending 12 hours watching EF3+ tornadoes. It rode the spine of the apps along the northern border of our county. Amazing! Thought about driving up to Woody gap later to see if any trees are down. NEGa
You are correct. It rode the spine of the apps along the northern border of our county. Amazing! Thought about driving up to Woody gap later to see if any trees are down. amazing might be an understatement! i saw the lightning from the lumpkin storm, as well as rabun. reports of two tornados (or maybe one tornado and two touchdowns) in rabun county, and the road i use to get to work was supposedly closed, so i went a bit north to check it out. trees down, powerlines, debris everywhere. parts of two highways are closed (or were earlier today) due to the number of trees and power lines in the roads. thought i would never say this, but thankfully it was boring all things considered imby last night. lots of lightning, some thunder and rain but nothing like the tornados that seems to be to my north, south and west. for once i am glad that type of extreme wx passed me by - those tornados yesterday were way beyond normal for the se

Thought about driving up to Woody gap later to see if any trees are down. I think I was wrong about midnight. I think it was more like 10pm. According to the Nugget, 3 possible Tornadoes in Lumpkin Co. http://thedahloneganugget.com/articles/2011/04/28/news/01%20funnel.txt. Someone even caught a funnel on camera. Apparently worst hit was the Dicks Creek area, which I believe is not that far from you. It says Nimbelwell area was also hit. I wonder if that will affect the Ranger Run / mountain bike race this weekend.

VeronicaCorningstone
Pitt and Martin County under TORNADO WARNING now. Fabulous. Going on a straight path over not just my in-laws AGAIN (they got it in the Farmville storm on the 16th) but also my parents. Just got off the phone with them to warn them, as they had recently gotten home from shopping with my son and weren't aware of the warning. WeatherNC, if you're at home, I know this is your area; hope you have battened down the hatches. Also not good - Farmville is setting up for the Dogwood Festival that begins this evening. Lots of outdoor vendors and rides. Not cool.
downeastnc
Pitt and Martin County under TORNADO WARNING now. I am on the wrong side of town ( SE ) to chase this one and local news are saying there is damage around Farmville but these are pretty weak couplets so I doubt its to bad. I am holding out for the couplet crossing into S Lenior it looks to come up my side of the county in 30-45 mins. It also has held up off and on for a couple of hrs now. Just updated radar and the weak couplet took a right and looks to pass right over Greenville.....
