Lots of wind atm, with OVC skies, was stunned to wake up to the FAT numbers coming out of AL, TN, MS, and GA. Went to bed last night listening to the Catoosa county Fire-EMS-Sheriff on the iPhone, and last I heard was 5 deaths there. I fear this is going to go higher as reports that are made public and confirmed are likely hours old by the time they are released, and many areas still have not been cleared per ABC 33/40 in AL.

Total fatalities now stand around 180.

Edit: I see that you were just discussing the deaths in Catoosa county. Please disregard. I was not trying to imply there were that many deaths in the one county. I was updating the overall number.

Big bust here. No thunder or lightning. Hardly any rain. Just some gusty winds and that was it last night and early morning hours.

Nothing here as well. The only rain I'm seeing in the guage is what fell yesterday around noon. Completely missed it all, savea couple light showers. Heartfelt prayers and thoughts with all the families that have to put their lives together from a great tragedy.

Same here in West Georgia. Got a few sprinkles and that's about it.

That gives me chills reading that.

For all those on this board that were complaining about the storms dieing out we all should have prayed for the whole system to just dissipate. It was an extremely volatile situation where you shouldn't want any storm of any strength near you at all with the tornadic potential that the atmosphere contained yesterday.

The only person I know and saw that was complaining was the poster that made the post above this one. No sane person would complain that's for sure. Otherwise, it's been an incredible thread and job by everyone. The lack of weenism, complaints, or other problems was quite extraordinary given how many people were viewing this thread for so long.

I was just complaining about not getting any rain. I never complained about not getting hit by a destructive tornado.

without question, you guys have to see this footage from the Tuscaloosa tornado.

Unreal. Especially about the 3:30 mark.

I don't normally comment on weather outside coastal NC but the battle between terror and adrenaline that young man was experiencing....well, it gave me goose bumps.

How can anyone watch that without imagining being in a similar situation? And who could possibly maintain such composure while the "fight or flee" instinct is surely raging? I know I couldn't....

The winds were very strong outside of thunderstorms in Southern Pines this morning (gusting over 50 mph). I tried to get some on video but I am not sure how it will come out. Interestingly I then drove to FAY and the winds were hardly blowing in comparison. I guess it was a localized LLJ max.

Winds hitting mid 40's here and we are actually getting some decent sun, in fact its very Apr 16thish out there lots of filtered sun and strong SW wind. Of course there isnt nearly the instability or upper support so I will settle for just a few run of the mill severe storms and even that looks like a stretch at this point.

SPC does have us at 10% for tornados so I guess if some decent updrafts get going they might spin up a few weaker funnels.

Wow! I feel like I have a weather hangover. Nothing severe imby last night. My thoughts are with those who are suffering today. I know it was brought up way back in the thread yest. but I think it is worth mentioning again. As much as we rag on TWC for being full of fluff. I thought they did an awesome job of covering things yest. & last night. Most of you pobably know about this but, for any who don't. Here is link to where you can listen to select police, fire, ems, & amt. radio. Some pretty amazing stuff on there ths morning.

WRAL saying the storms are coming still.

Looks like a fairly healthy cell is about to race up US 1 through Lee and Wake counties. Sound familiar? Good news is it is relatively weak at the moment, although it did produce a severe thunderstorm warning earlier. Another cell behind that one.
