The damage in the Tri-Cities(TN) appears to widespread. Seven reported dead in Glad Springs(VA). Since this happened at night, the damage area-wide is just now getting documented by video. Basically, I-81 from Fall Branch(TN) to about 30 miles north of the TN/VA line was hit the hardest. Two supercells moved (almost exactly) up the interstate corridor last night. Tornado warnings accompanied both. Camp Creek(not on I-81) in Greeneville must have been hit pretty hard due to the news crews being in that area. My neighborhood is about four miles northwest of the I-81 damage. It is extremely rare for a tornado outbreak of this size to hit this area. May be one for the record books.

27 confirmed fatalities in the Chattanooga Metro area this morning. 15 of them are within a 4 mile radius o my house. 7 in ringgold, and 8 in Apison, which is only about 2 miles from me as the crow flies.

Just awful, and unfortunately from what I've heard so far this morning there are still areas they can't get to.

I am usually not happy when the storms miss me; however, this morning I am. A trained spotter reported that a tornado was on the ground in Morganton, NC; however, there is no report of major damage this morning. I live on the eastern side of the county and the storm missed me (thank goodness). Definitely a big relief this morning.

without question, you guys have to see this footage from the Tuscaloosa tornado.

Unreal. Especially about the 3:30 mark.

That looks like a tornado you see in the plains states, not the southeast. I feel horrible for the people in AL, but at the same time thankful that the storms weakened so much before they reached metro Atlanta. I couldn't imagine something like that hitting a major metro area like Atlanta.

That gives me chills reading that.

For all those on this board that were complaining about the storms dieing out we all should have prayed for the whole system to just dissipate. It was an extremely volatile situation where you shouldn't want any storm of any strength near you at all with the tornadic potential that the atmosphere contained yesterday.

I agree. This is one time when I'm glad the forecasters were wrong. They were saying the storms wouldn't lose much intensity as they moved into metro Atlanta, but thankfully they did.

Lots of wind atm, with OVC skies, was stunned to wake up to the FAT numbers coming out of AL, TN, MS, and GA. Went to bed last night listening to the Catoosa county Fire-EMS-Sheriff on the iPhone, and last I heard was 5 deaths there. I fear this is going to go higher as reports that are made public and confirmed are likely hours old by the time they are released, and many areas still have not been cleared per ABC 33/40 in AL.
