Rainforrest
If it can make it thru southern Jackson and Macon county I will be very impressed. looks like the southern escarpement of macon jackson and transylvania counties are weakening the storm. audioguy3107
My prayers are with everyone effected by all of this. We've been very lucky here this spring. In fact, it's been one of the quietest springs I can remember in a long time. Hopefully we can get out of this pattern and move into a more summer pattern soon. "Quiet spring"??????!!! You're being sarcastic I hope. Maybe you need to move to Moore, Oklahoma.....get more action there you know.
EmersonGA
I think our long tracker is encountering Rabun Bald right now. Its 4500 feet with a significant drop to the east. That should be a good indicator. Ive only picked up 15" here but Ill gladly trade my rain for avoiding what happened 10 minutes north of me. Marion_NC_WX
The mountains of Southern Jackson County is really putting the blitz on that long track supercell...which is really good news. That said, am still concerned that if it holds together, it would pick up again near the escarpment. The next 30 minutes will tell the tale. EmersonGA
Quiet spring? You're crazy SnowStorm. I havent seen a spring like this in years. Then again you thought 88 in April was a record. You better watch out though. Lookout is around and you wont like him when hes angry.

I was saying in my area I haven't seen a spring this quiet in a long time. We got very lucky. 2008 seemed much worse than this for the Atlanta area. EDIT: LOL the above post makes mine seem strange even for me. I was referring to SnowStorms post where he said this spring has been quiet "here". Marion_NC_WX
Eastern TN has sort of been ignored in all of this yet they have had some huge ones all night, what are the reports of damage in eastern tn so far? Talked to one of my friends an hour ago who was in contact with a football coach over in Maryville TN...he and his family have been in the basement all evening. Multiple "reports" of tornadoes in his area and power outages.

audioguy3107
I'm a little surprised the Newnan cell isn't tornado warned....still a decent couplet, but it's so close to the radar site, it's hard to say for sure......I'd watch out for this cell though. snowforme
I hate posting an IMBY question because I know they are really frowned upon but with my three precious little kiddos sleeping upstairs I have to ask. Do you experts think everything probably looks ok for Raleigh overnight? If there's a good chance things could get nasty before dawn I will somehow force myself to stay awake just to make sure I keep our kids safe. I apologize in advance for asking but those of you with kids I hope will understand.
dsaur
Glad these things are flying. I get to find out if I threaded the needle or get to visit Oz pretty quick. Looks like the worst is a few miles north and more than a few south. Rolling thunder all around, clouds nearly constantly lit, and moderate rain. Current timing suggest Raleigh to be under the gun anywhere from 5-6am to late morning, that however doesnt mean that something couldnt happen before or after, but thats when the best chance of organized storms is as of right now. BIG FROSTY
I'm not sure how the storms will react once east of the mountains I'm here in the N.Foothills of NC, Most of the time the storms get cranking just to my east Greensboro on east. But I don't have a basement and have a wife and two kids a sleep, So i'm gonna stay up a while and see what takes place? I can get the family up and to the neighbors basement in about 5-10 minutes. And let's not forget to pray for all the ones that's lost someone and their property. Hope everyone has a safe night....

Marion_NC_WX
Today's historic long-track tornado looks to have met its demise courtesy of the mountains of Jackson County. For the first time in hundreds of miles the cell has weakened to a point where no additional warning has been issued. That's very good thing to see after what all the storm has done. Still plenty of cells coming right behind it into northeast georgia, maybe they'll do the same thing over the next hour or two.
