Praying for your grandma.... Hopefully she is safe and everyone else is too. I'd love nothing more than for there to be no fatalities today. Realistically, I don't know if that's possible though.

Yeah, not possible. We already have 4 deaths in Alabama this morning from the QLCS that moved through. I expect many more unfortunately. Not many people own a weather radio. You have over 250,000 people in Alabama already without power. Plus, you have tornadoes that could be significant hitting the area. You might have a few people, especially the elderly, that won't know any better. No James Spann on TV to tell you where to go. It's all through AM/FM radio.

It's going to be tough. Pray for these people!

Alabama EMS reporting 4 fatalities from the line of storms this morning...I believe in St. Claire county. Not a good start....this could be unbelievable.

It was Cullman, Calhoun, Jackson counties where the fatalities occurred. Oh yeah, there is no "e" on "St. Clair" County.

Question regarding RADARSCOPE APP on IPHONE in case we lose power

1) Radar Data ... do you use NOAA or Imapweather

2) Typically which Reflectivity Product do you use

Base Reflectivity Tilt 1 , 2, 3, 4

Classic Reflectivity 248nmi

Composite

Also Base Velocity Tilt 1,2,3,4,

I use Composite Reflectivity in most cases, that's what my GRL3 loops use. Rarely use base anything.

I don't use radarscope so I can't speak for radar data, all of mine comes directly the the NWS.

I saw that.... I cannot recall the last time I saw tornado probabilities that high before... This is going to be a pretty ugly situation... First you had the storms knock hundereds if not thousands of trees over this morning in West Alabama... Second, those storms took a lot of power lines down (I head at least 250K without power this morning at some point). Third, if you don't have power NOR a weather radio, how are you going to get weather information reliably? Phones, I hope?? Fourth, the amount of heating we are seeing all across Alabama and Georgia... Temperatures are easily pushing low to mid 80s for many of us and there is still a long ways to go until sunset... Fifth, the moisture feed from the Gulf is ridiculous! I'm seeing spotty sprinkles pop up on radar well ahead of the main action in Mississippi...

Needless to say, I am VERY worried about the severity of this outbreak. I have a feeling it's going to get pretty rough for my viewing area and it's going to be an extremely long night...

Tell me about it. I'm now wishing I was in Atlanta right now rather than Auburn today...

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...

Hamilton County in east Tennessee...

eastern Marion County in east Tennessee...

* until 315 PM EDT/215 PM CDT/

* at 122 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a

line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado along a

line extending from 7 miles south of Gruetli-Laager to Jasper to

Bridgeport. Doppler radar showed this tornado moving northeast at

60 mph.

* Locations in the warning include...

Chattanooga... Whitwell... Lookout Mountain... Signal Mountain...

Powells Crossroads... Red Bank... East Brainerd... Middle Valley...

Also, a PDS was issued at 1:45pm CDT

DISCUSSION...A CLASSIC TORNADO OUTBREAK SITUATION IS DEVELOPING

ACROSS MUCH OF AL AS DISCRETE TORNADIC SUPERCELLS FORM OVER MS AND

TRACK ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. STRONG LOW LEVEL AND DEEP LAYER

VERTICAL SHEAR...COMBINED WITH A MOIST AND MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIR

MASS...WILL POSE A DANGEROUS RISK OF STRONG/VIOLENT AND POTENTIALLY

LONG-TRACK TORNADOES.

Temperature at my house in eastern Burke County (just west of Hickory, NC) has climbed to 80.3 with a dew point of 67. From everything I am seeing on the radar and the forecast, this may be one of the roughest evenings and overnight times that we have had here in the foothills of NC in a long time. Those of you in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee be careful this afternoon and tonight. This is a very dangerous situation. I could sure use some rain; however, I can deal with no severe weather.
