Buffalo Bumble
great photo. It cracks me up, you are at work. Hell down here in Harrisburg, we get 20" and everything is closed. Bet your kids are in school too? I actually had to drive to work to get to the heavy snow. Every school district within "the band" is closed today. Tough morning for my daughter - we were just on the outside of the band looking in. Every school district to the south, east, and west was closed, but ours is open... velouria13
Anyone in or near the Amherst area of Buffalo? I have relatives up there and am wondering how they are doing with the snow I live in Snyder, so in Amherst about 1 mile NE of the Buffalo line. We have an inch or two on the ground from yesterday morning but got zero in the way of lake effect accumulation yesterday. Just a few flurries while the band was near the airport late last night. If we got nothing in this part of Amherst, it's a pretty sure bet none of Amherst got anything yesterday, although the band seems to be moving a bit north, so the southeast corner of the town seems to be getting some now. LakeEffectKing
Is there anything scheduled for next week. To hell with waiting down here Just the potential for lots of light to moderate snowshowers all week with NW winds over the lakes.....most likely no real organized epic amounts....I'd guess that everyday next week (up to Friday) someone (and probably a different location everyday) will pick up 5-10"....possibly more....but no 30" "bands" on the near horizon IMO. I remember the 4-cast map you put out last January for the big retrograding N Atlantic low. Thought you were drinking too much Steeler Brau when I saw 24" totals south of L Ontario (over a 3-day + period). Turned out to be a great call. Maybe some highly localized areas cashing in by the end of next week with similar amounts...

Thanks. 2 ways around the lakes to get "BIG" totals....slow and steady (multiday event, usually spreading itself around a bit) or wham, bam, thank-you ma'am, 3+"/hr. stuff for 12-24 hours.....then the epic events when both are true. Maybe some highly localized areas cashing in by the end of next week with similar amounts... We ended up with 31" on the ground between Pulaski and Altmar from that. I'm not sure what the "official" total would have been, but I remember snowblowing 5-6" and getting the exact same measurement out in the yard from the last time I cleared the driveway. I believe we did have a few inches on the ground at the start, but nothing more than 3 or 4". I'm hoping we can pull out a foot or so next week after this cold starts freezing the ground again (it thawed in the rain).

It's unfortunate that the majority of the lake Erie band is dumping heavy snow over open water and only comes a short ways inland. Congrats to the few who are getting the snow.
