I think tornado watch 144 almost a PDS. I guess it has to do also with how high the hail and wind threats well. Looking at the tornado probs 80/50 alone seem to meet PDS criteria. I have heard of PDS watches with a 70/40 for tornadoes but I believe the hail and wind threats were even higher than on this particular watch now. Like Beau said earlier it probably doesn't because sometimes the public does not heed the watch even if its a regular tornado watch or a PDS.

Honestly I just can't imagine some of these not being PDS watches - high population areas - I don't get it. High risk, as well - imo. Confusing - rhyme or reason. This is an amazing outbreak.

Probably because at this point it doesnt really matter. The public at large doesn't know what a High Risk or PDS watch is. The weather wheenies are already clicking f5 as fast as they can.

Agree completely. Think a high risk is definitely warranted, especially when there looks to be yet another line of tornadic storms developing in MS that will pass through areas already affected.

for BHM metro " north storm if it starts producing moving the worst possible way..the city is strung out SW to NE and it looks to go through that path if it hold together and produces

while another possible tornado moves over the south metro

unless the storms merge before then

The areas in western Alabama seeing the storms now are not highly populated and internet and cell service is spotty. There could be several tornadoes on the ground and not have eyewitness confirmation. Once the storms move east of Tuscaloosa the population density increases tremendously.

Here in Birmingham today we have had nothing severe but the structures on run of the mill thunderstorms has been amazing to watch. Dynamics are incredible with this storm.
