Well, we're getting severe thunderstorm warnings now but still no watch. Makes perfect sense. arrowheadsmiley.png

I'm a little surprised myself there isn't a watch or at the very least a mesoscale discussion from SPC. With storms knocking on the door (and one inside), i would have thought by now there would be some sort of attention paid to it. Those cell sin alabama are heading in our general direction and it won't be too long before of them get here.

Weve got light rain and distant thunder. The bad one went north fortunately and gave me time to batten down the hatches in my garden. Im ready for wind but Im worried about hail. All of my tomatoes got killed in 2009 by golf ball sized hail and I dont want a repeat.

WW possible soon across N GA

THE THREAT FOR SEVERE TSTMS IS INCREASING ACROSS

N-CNTRL/CNTRL/W-CNTRL GA...AND A WW MAY BECOME NECESSARY.

AN AREA OF MLCAPE VALUES OF 500-1000 J/KG WILL CONTINUE EXPANDING

NWD ACROSS GA DURING THE NEXT COUPLE HOURS FOLLOWING THE PASSAGE OF

A WARM FRONT. THIS WILL OCCUR IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE INFLUX OF GULF

MOISTURE AT THE ERN PERIPHERY OF THE WARM SECTOR. RECENT

SUPERCELLULAR STRUCTURE OVER WRN PICKENS COUNTY REFLECTS THE STRONG

DEEP-LAYER WIND SHEAR IN PLACE. ADDITIONAL CONVECTION WILL LIKELY

DEVELOP WITHIN THE EXPANDING WARM SECTOR AND NEAR THE WARM

FRONT...AND WIND PROFILES WILL REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS.

LARGE HAIL AND DMGG WINDS WILL BE THE PRIMARY THREATS...THOUGH

STRONG LOW-LEVEL WIND SHEAR WILL PROMOTE A THREAT FOR TORNADOES.

Looks like it's been awfully rough for the MS and AL folks since I left for work this morning. The reports from the recent tornadoes are nothing short of impressive. The cell south of Birmingham continues to hold strong with the tornado warnings continued for parts of Bibb, Shelby, and Jefferson counties and is the most interesting area of storms that I'm seeing on radar clustered with it. One in particular east of Meridian, MS has a nice top to it (46k). That one might hold and push into Selma. It just looks an absolute sight on here.

EDIT: Tornado warning in NE Bibb county has been canceled.

EDIT(6:33): Next cell with a TVS sig. near Brent, AL is already very dangerous. Anyone living along a line going SW toward that area I would be careful. Looks to follow a path similar to the cells that just went east of Hoover.

EDIT(6:45): Areas west of Maplesville look out. Another cell wrapping up and intensifying hastily. Could be the next tornado.

I'm in Douglas County, GA, just off the interstate near Lithia Springs and things are starting to pick up here. Hearing a lot of thunder off in the distance and have had a few flashes of lightning that have lit up my entire apartment. Getting kind of giddy now!

Get ready for some possible strong winds. Storm does have a broad area of rotation heading towards Douglasville.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few strong winds, honestly. The past few weeks most of "funner" storms have gone north of me. Looks like this one might do the same.

EDIT: Been almost a constant roll of thunder for the past 2 or 3 minutes now, and lots of lightning. Power went out for a few seconds as well.

The cell is moving over me now. Some gusty wind at the start, but now just very heavy rain with almost zero wind.

EDIT: The rain keeps getting harder and harder. You can barely see grass at my apartment complex now. It's just standing water.

It was all much more severe here in Baton Rouge than forecasts had led me to believe. I was under the impression that most of the severe weather would go north of us. Even the massive tornado watch that I saw earlier this morning showed the southern line of the watch area to be north of me by at least 30 miles (not far by weather-watching standards, but still).

Things changed during the 6-hour nap I took. By the time I woke up, the local ABC affiliate's weather crew had blogged several severe local watches/warnings. It was like a battlefield. It's mostly quieted down now. But it was obviously noteworthy... and I slept through it!! ARGH!!
