calculus1
This guy was lucky he didn't get hurt. Agreed! No one chases storms by getting directly in the path of the actual twister! You have to wonder why he didn't drive a little distance away to capture the video instead of just staying in its path. He basically says goodbye to his wife and tells her he loves her (or whomever he's talking to) right as it gets ready to pass over him, as if he knew he had a chance of not seeing her again. Which, if that's true, why didn't he move out of danger and then film? Just, wow!

Isopycnic
Here's another good video of the Wilson tornado that I found as it was passing through a highway. Will delete this post if it has already been posted. Odd... This tornado crossed 795/264 in the same exact place I took these pics of the ice storm this past winter... See 2:20 -> on in this video... This is where the tornado came through:
Snowless in Carrollton
There were two EF-1s in Georgia (Fort Benning and Macon). Edit: Here's the storm survey from NWS Peachtree City. Yeah there were a couple of small tornadoes in GA, but overall it was just your run of the mill spring storm system in GA. Nothing memorable. Maybe some wind damage, hail in north Metro Atlanta, but other than that nothing too much worth noting. Actually, I think that storm system a couple weeks ago was more memorable than this one. Amped
Hey who said the media did a bad job. Applause on that one. In North Carolina, the governor declared a state of emergency and said the 62 tornadoes reported were the most since March 1984, when a storm system spawned 22 twisters in the Carolinas that killed 57 people — 42 in North Carolina — and injured hundreds. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_severe_weather
greg ralls
Hey who said the media did a bad job. Applause on that one. http://news.yahoo.co..._severe_weather I thought it was lousy - at least on TV. CNN was talking about the tornado as it approached Raleigh, but then switched away to talk about Libya. TWC was covering it, but then went to commercial just as the twister was getting close to Raleigh.

buckeyefan1
Thanks guys for coming over to the Central Region forum and posting a heads up in our thread - honestly I forget to check all the different regions - especially when busy. I am glad someone came over and directed us over here. I lurk there often as it's a great place for information when systems overlap our regions

Brick Tamland
I saw Matthew East wrote the tornado that hit Lee and Wake County was an EF3, was on the ground for 63 miles, and was 3 miles wide at one point. It hit just 11 miles from my house, very close to my son's preschool. I am not surprised if this is the biggest tornado outbreak ever for NC. WRAL is saying 22 have been killed. I know more died in the 1984 outbreak, but I don't recall one with so many tornados and so many areas affected. If you have time to kill, WRAL has over 9 hours of video posted from their live coverage yesterday as the tornados hit and the aftermatch. Fun to watch now, but not so fun when they said folks in Wake Forest need to take cover yesterday. http://www.wral.com/news/video/9452204/#/vid9452204

JQPublic
I suspect the Sanford/Raleigh, NC tornado, the Askewville, NC tornado, and the one tornado in Leakeville, AL the other day will be upgraded to EF4. Not to minimize the event, but it doesn't seem like the Raleigh tornado was an EF4. I remember seeing damage first hand from the N. Raleigh EF4 in 1988 and it was much worse...at least in Raleigh. SluggerWx
Thanks guys for coming over to the Central Region forum and posting a heads up in our thread - honestly I forget to check all the different regions - especially when busy. I am glad someone came over and directed us over here. Thanks for migrating and sharing your expertise with the SE forum after I brought it up! Merging of the minds! DBriedis
According to Brad Panovich's (WCNC in Charlotte) Twitter account, the Raleigh tornado was 0.3 miles wide, not 3. If you look at the report you can see it has an extra "." in front of the 3 compared to the other data lines. One argument for fractions over decimals I guess. blackjack123
Not to minimize the event, but it doesn't seem like the Raleigh tornado was an EF4. I remember seeing damage first hand from the N. Raleigh EF4 in 1988 and it was much worse...at least in Raleigh. It said in NWS Raleigh statement winds likely exceeded 160 mph. I mean I could see it getting rated low-end EF4 with winds around 170 mph. It doesnt really matter for there is not much difference between a high EF3 low EF4. I think the Raleigh tornado from 1988 was a high-end F4 or high-end EF4(200 mph) on the EF-scale.
NC_hailstorm
EF1 with 105 mph winds in Rowan Co. confirmed today. This particular cell passed over me with a SVR warning on it and then went tornadic about 20 minutes afterwards off to the NE close to Salisbury. RevDodd
FWIW, the Lemon Springs-Sanford-Raleigh twister was .3. Given how hectic things have been, I don't fault them dropping the decimal point. Don't know if anyone's commented on the mess down here in Faynam, but the north side around Bragg had to be EF3 damage. If you haven't checked out the Observer's art (including the first shots from the Food Lion Distribution Center south of Dunn) check out www.fayobserver.com We're planning to produce a track map of all the NC tornadoes. We've got 22 confirmed by the NWS...anyone heard of any more. And yes, I note the irony that the 22 storms matches the 84 outbreak.

They had it right, they just put the dot after 3 more lol Haha four dots before the 3. Three dots everywhere else. Lesson for the NWS, use 0.3 instead of .
