jshetley
To have 2 big severe, widespread events like this in the state in the same week is pretty rare, to this magnitude atleast. I doubt we'll see hail around here this size again anytime soon. Probably so. It's been 19 years since any hail close to that size has fell down here. May never see it again in my lifetime unless I chase a storm.

jshetley
what did you end up with. Looks like it might have went just east of you. Not even any thunder here tonight. There was lots of lightning towards Gaffney right at dark though. The cap was able to hold up nice in this area and back to the west keeping the storms at bay. Gastonwxman
My last post for the night regarding this event. First thing is a video showing the awesome CC lightning that occurred with the final storm that affected parts of Cleveland and Gaston counties. I segmented it so only the best were shown. And a couple of pictures of the hail from the first storm that hit here:

eyewall
Going back through the thread there are some amazing shots by all! Nice work! I was fortunate enough to chase this event and posted a thread about that. I have no right to b**ch about this severe season after that!
blueheronNC
Even from an "armchair" distance up here in the Triangle, I gotta say it was a pleasure watching this all unfold with you all and reading/watching the amazing accounts as they came in. At least I was able to witness thunder/lightning and a couple of heavy squalls during my visit here, which is more than I've personally seen in about two years. Need to try to move back to these parts somehow. In the meantime, here's to many more enjoyable events

THE TORNADO BEGAN ABOUT 5.5 MILES NORTH OF SHELBY BETWEEN DICK SPANGLER ROAD AND FALLSTON ROAD. IT MOVED IN A SOUTHEAST DIRECTION FOR ABOUT ONE HALF MILE BEFORE LIFTING JUST EAST OF THE INTERSECTION OF WRIGHT STREET AND FALLSTON RD. THERE WERE TWO AREAS OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE ALONG FALLSTON RD. ONE AREA WAS AT A BUSINESS BETWEEN WRIGHT STREET AND DICK SPANGLER ROAD...WHERE THE ROOF WAS BLOWN OFF A VEHICLE SHED. burgertime
Here are some pics from the storm my girlfriend took...the first two is with the flash on, but it's neat to see the light reflecting off the hail and rain.... All of these were taken from the second story of our house, it was pretty fun to watch. I left the good DSLR in the car so these were done with our secondary camera. Gastonwxman
Couldn't resist as I figured it would be interesting to share these right quick. I freeze framed certain lightning bolts in my CC lightning video and saw impressive results out of it...
Carvers Gap
The only official reports I've seen thus far are 1" hail and tree damage in Johnson City (mentioned the medical center area near the W Market/State of Franklin intersection specifically) and 4.25" (softball) size hail in Rogersville. Family in Erwin report small hail and wind so far, but no damage. Heard this morning on WJHL that a tornado was confirmed on Saturday in the Milligan community of Johnson City. Someone had video of it. I hear parts of Washington Co. are a mess still.
FoothillsNC
I went to survey the tornado damage today on highway 180. Its just north of uptown Shelby, in a spot that seems to get a twister every few years in that area south of Fallston. It was confirmed a weak F0, top winds 80mph. There were 2 trailers overturned, and thats the only major damage I saw. I drove the path the NWS outlined, and didn't see many tree's uprooted or anything, just the usual Bradfords split, and the odd thing in that area was all of the gutters ripped off houses. I only noticed that phenomenon in that 2 block area. I think this is the twister that HKYWx. pointed out the hook echo, and here's that image.
