LaForce Posted April 11, 2011 Share Posted April 11, 2011 its not that i'm writing off the chance of svr, wouldn't surprise me at all to see some wind damage across western mi with temps still in the 70s keeping some instablity around, its just what could have been if the storms were a few hours quicker, if something could have went up ahead of the cold front, etc. When you see numbers like ehi of 8, supercell comp. of 28, and sig. tornado number of 6-8 you just kinda hang your head and think if only....... edit: to clear things up a little, yes with those numbers things could go boom in a big way once the storms reach land, but to me nighttime tornadoes are useless because A: they don't provide the photographic element that i want on a storm/tornado and B: they are 10x more dangerous to chasers/spotter/general population. We followed the storms from initiation in northeast Iowa, but the horrible road network and lack of bridge crossings really screwed us today. If it wasn't for our great day yesterday this would have really been a downer. Still managed a few wall cloud shots before the storms scooted away into Wisconsin. Apparently that warm air "cap" was way too much to be overcome. It also appeared, via radar, that any storms that tried to develop due west of me, were getting sheared apart.... Yeah, you're not supposed to get under the freaking wall cloud of a storm already producing a tornado. From what I saw yesterday, alot of chasers are plain reckless. We saw chasers stopped a mile in front of a supercell and it was moving 70-75 mph towards them. Tons of hail and dangerous winds probably ruined their day. Chicago Storm Posted April 12, 2011 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Here are a few shots from Sunday's chase... We were on the move most of the time, so I didn't end up with any spectacular shots. The best storm structure we saw came with what was previously the La Crosse tornadic supercell as it approached the Appleton, WI area...it eventually went on to produce a tornado just east of Appleton, in Kaukauna, WI. There was quite a bit of people out on saturday and alot of the "well known" chasers made the trek up to IA. We met up with Adam Lucio and Danny Neal for awhile and shot the breeze with them for about an hour in IA before we left and decided to go a bit further west right before CI took place.
