weatherwiz
radar to the south is impressive. look forward to it. I wonder how well they hold, there really isn't nearly as much MUCape up this way as there was/is down that way...these storms are being fed nicely though by the nose of the MLJ/RRQ of the ULJ...if the storms out run this support (which seems to happen fairly often) they probably will collapse some. Perhaps southern CT can get some lightning/thunder.

Perhaps southern CT can get some lightning/thunder. The line in NJ has weakened a bit; a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for the ACY area, but the storm appears to be losing some of its punch, albeit with the possibility of lightning, thunder, and heavy rain even up here. I guess this event isn't being caused so much by surface conditions, given that temps/dewpoints are in the 40s, but by the pool of warm air in the mid-levels. Here is the ACY sounding at 6z Wednesday:
40/70 Benchmark
Lost my last pile of snow in the yard....4\12....not bad; imagine if it hadn't gone out with such a wimper....may have made May, which is practically unheard of here on the cp. weatherwiz
Wow...that area of elevated convection seems to be holding...still a good deal of lightning.

Neighbor lost his late last week. I wish we had a good March...it's the one thing to complain about this winter...although still gets an A. Mr. Windcredible!
Had a couple rumbles of thunder here in the last few minutes. Glad we've managed to get some convection...nam and GFS had me concerned we were gonna get screwed here...and I just fertilized today, so I needed the rain. weatherwiz
The storms continue to ride right up along the nose of the MLJ! Also with some stronger WAA occurring in the low-levels of the atmosphere coupled with some slight mid-level cooling were getting some elevated instability into the region. weatherwiz
Incredible lightning here, beautiful... I can't wait. Was there alot of CG or was it mostly CC? Not sure if the free lightning map is just CG strikes or a mix of CC/CG.

ORH_wxman
I'll put the over/under on busted events at 5 this year. That's probably being nice.
weatherwiz
Got my blinds up, my windows open, my TV on mute, and I have my little lamp plugged in instead of having the big light on so I can see better. I can see some CC flashes in the distance! My bedroom windows in front of my computer face Southeast/south/southwest so I can see it come!

weatherwiz
Was just outside with my brother...saw a few good CG strikes then some loud booms...about 2-2.5 miles away the storms are. Came inside to my bedroom now.

Arnold214
There's quite a few CG strikes showing up on lightning data too although I'm sure most of it is in cloud.

Perhaps there are some that are like cloud-to-air...not quite reaching the ground.

I won't go back out unless it starts magically hailing out.

Arnold214
There could be some pea (or smaller size hail) embedded in the heavy rain.
weatherwiz
There could be some pea (or smaller size hail) embedded in the heavy rain. I hope I get some. It is fairly cold aloft (~-14C at 500mb and ML lapse rates just a little over 6 C/KM. I just had a house rattler!
