Watching that AWESOME squall line setting up to our west...it should become elevated in nature once the instability wanes but some of us should see t'storms tonight. Lots of lightning and thunder!!!

God, what an impressive month, just wow...I can't wait until it's our time, just several more weeks.

If we can get enough sun I agree...however, the one thing that scares me besides the on-shore flow is the decreasing ML lapse rates as the day goes on...that is never, ever a good sign for us.

I do think though extreme W. CT does pose a threat...the SPC SREF keeps hinting at areas just up to the CT border for some potentially good activity.

Still stunned at how those -21 to -24 850s are so persistent in Canada.

It's because of the huge block over the Bering Strait/Kamchatka/Siberia....all of those places are torching, so every bit of arctic air has ended up on the Canadian side of the hemisphere. The block has moved northward now but is having the same effect. This seems pretty typical when you get an amplified Aleutian ridge in a La Niña which taps cold air from the North Pole and causes northerly flow ahead of the block into Central Canada. It's frustrating because we've had a good airmass over Quebec/Ontario and the Canadian Prairies since early March, but we haven't really been able to exploit it since the NAO seems unwilling to move into negative territory. Here is the GFS forecast temperature anomalies for the Northern Hemisphere over the next eight days, showing the distribution of the cold air being largely on the North American side:

Also, you can see that the global anomaly is only 0.13C versus the thirty-year climo, compared to >0.6C last year...that might be giving the Canadian cold pool some extra life, although it's not a main factor.

What a 3 day stretch of spring weather this has been, truly incredible cobalt blue skies, light refreshing southerly winds off of the sound, does not get any better than this.

Tubes, was sunny and mid 70's ok for late April high atop Mt Zucker? Hope you enjoyed the weather today smokey.

Right now is perfect outside...62F and very refreshing. The upper 70s earlier got a bit muggy. Should be a very nice sleeping night with temps near 50F.

Weather was great here today, topped out at 80.6F and currently 60.5F...I'm not crazy about the humidity and warm overnight lows, as I prefer crisp spring nights, but it is incredibly pleasant to work outside during a day like this. Was right around 70F as I mended the garden fence, planted the beans and squashes, and walked around with a neighbor. I only had to substitute teach from 11:30-2:30 today (half day), so I had a lot of free time. I'm hoping for some more refreshing airmasses and getting a lot more done in the garden; I still need to plant the heirloom eggplants and tomatoes that are sitting in a seed tray slowly growing on our porch...also need to acquire a few pepper plants from Home Depot. Shouldn't be a problem. Weather looks great for both outdoor activity and the garden for the next week with 3 more days in the 70s and then a return to seasonable highs in the mid 60s and drier, crisper air. Hopefully the blocking shown on the long-range GFS doesn't make for a miserable May, although I do think smart money is on some cooler weather with all the ensembles showing a tank in the AO/NAO values.

I never realized how warm it is south and west! 50s tops today in and around Boston. Sun burned through (hazy) mid day.

Yesterday down to HVN was much nicer as warmth was already starting to punch in as I left.

Tomorrow should be alot warmer. I don't care until the weekend.

Had some storms come through over night--about 1:00-1:45. l pretty much rolled over and went back to sleep, but the rain was pouring down. Actually, if I had to judge on what I heard, it suonded like hail (truth told, it actually sounded like a sleet storm). I don't know if hail was a possibility though, so I'll say it was heavy rain (.28" on the day so far).

60.3/60.
