Its been incredibly cold up there...esp from Hudson Bay NE toward the Davis Straight and back NW to N Canada near the islands. Its been running some 8 to 10 degrees below average at 850mb there for the month in spots.

Logan11
Once we get more into May I don't suffer as bad as you guys given my longitude. One of those big troughs and -3C 850 here could mean sunny and mid 55-60 which is pleasant with a May sun. This isn't BOS where it might be fogged in and 44/43. LOL Cutoff hell on day 10 Euro easterly flow.....Dear Lord..please no

We could be in epic disaster May weather for a period. Break out Tips bath toaster pic.

We could be in epic disaster May weather for a period. Break out Tips bath toaster pic. Our hope for early MAy is that the -NAO is so strong that it pushes the boundaries so far south we stay sunny and dry with 60's and 70's by day..with low dews. We don't want a cut off or any kind of boundary nearby..otherwise death by toasters, hair dryers, and heads in ovens will be large

ORH_wxman
Drove by Lincoln Plaza on 290 today on the E side of ORH and the once huge snow piles there still were upwards of 8-10 feet high. Kind of impressive actually. They should easily last into May.

I think May will be nasty as well, hopefully with some snow for good measure. It'll be one of the years that mild, pleasant weather doesn't establish itself fully until mid-June. I missed all of last week here but it looks like it was pretty miserable. We've had a lot of cloudy and murky days with maybe 2 or 3 warm/sunny days thrown in all month. There's no sign of leaves budding yet here while at this time last year we were halfway through leaf-out. I noticed some buds in lower elevations today, but its definitely been a lot slower this year.

I think we're a full month behind where we were last year in everything from mountain snowpack to green-up. I can honestly count the days on one hand where we've had wall-to-wall sunshine all day and high temperature departures of +10F... that to me is a beautiful spring day (sun and warmer than normal). It seems like the few times the sun has come out all day, its been under a cold high pressure... it might be sunny but doesn't qualify as "nice spring weather" if its 35F at 2pm under full sun with gusty NW winds. I mean, I've enjoyed the rounds of snow and winter weather we've had so I'm not complaining, but for folks that are craving sun and mild departures, this hasn't been the spring for it.
