Forget about it.

You'll be lucky to see one 100F day. People forget, it's not that common not to hit triple digits here in a summer...2009 had no such days, 2008 only had one, etc.

Hoping for miserable humidity, swamp ass, leather peel, other side of the pillows not too cool anymore heat.

Peace amigo~right on....headed to the promised land now its about that time.

47

overcast

Heat Mizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzer.

Regarding leaf out... I was shocked to see a pic of DC today and it looks like summer down there now almost. 2.5 weeks ago when I left there it was sort of like you describe now in Dobbs Ferry. I guess the next couple weeks will see lower NY State totally leaf out...then we will be next in early May. Zippo here so far...only a few buds popping, but the overall landscape looks like late Fall still if you just do a cursory glance and don't notice the swelling buds, etc. The warm wx early next week is gonna open up the daffodils and forsythia here I think finally.

95-100 with excessive humidity? What do you think this is, Del Ray Beach? We're going to be in the upper 60s to mid 70s next week probably considering all the garbage in the warm sector and due south winds. I agree that the leaf-out will proceed rapidly, already have some small leaves on maple trees here though most species are not leafed out yet. It's interesting that the maples seem to get going a lot earlier than the beeches, elms, chestnuts, etc. But once we start seeing lows in the 50s with the humid/cloudy airmass, it should take off! I planted a bunch of squashes (both zucchini/summer squash and heirloom winter squashes) in my vegetable garden today, green beans tomorrow, cucumbers next week when the warmth arrives....eggplants, melons and heirloom tomatoes by May 10th. Already have the peas and Early Girl/Patio tomatoes in.

You must have seen more sun than Westchester; we only had a high of 49.2F in Dobbs Ferry. I was playing tennis this morning in Westport and noticed there was a filtered sun during our match, but when I drove back on I-95 it clouded back up quickly as I approached NYC. Sitting at 44.1/33, pretty impressive below normal temperatures for this time of year. HPN had a high of 50F.

Wow, I'm amazed at how far behind you and Pete are. Its about what Nate described for here as well at 500' near ORH. Things should really take off this week.

Remember also the Niña temperature gradient has been strong in the past month, with the Southern Plains torching, the Mid-Atlantic near average, and the Northern Tier well below normal. The cold shot after the 3/21 snowfall really didn't have the same teeth down there, and overall the SE ridge has been more of a player. This could explain some of the large variance you're noticing in leaf-out beyond just the normal climate differences:

Elevation is key in springtime; the last few hundred feet of the atmosphere warm quickly with the high April sun angle and the dead vegetation.

You and I are at similar elevation...my house is at 341' and the woods behind it are around 400-425'. Pete is up near 1500' and Logan near 1000'. That's a very powerful difference in springtime. Also, just look at how much better Pete preserves snowpack, his last patches are just melting whereas you lost yours a month ago!

FWIW... 43/21 here now.... There could be some flakes in the predawn, but I would have liked to be in the upper 30's going into it. I think 1500 feet plus is the better bet. But as always hoping for any frozen precip. :) Never say die.......

I think you're good to go...look at how low your dewpoint is, Rick! The only reason you're in the lower 40s is because the sun angle warmed you during the day, and it's hard to radiate with the thick cloud deck. Your temp should fall fast when the precip gets in.

It would be nice... Far southwest NY has -RN I think, but yeah it will be moving into some much drier air here.....

Yes we had very bad timing today. It was largely clear with just a touch of cirrus until like 4 PM and then the thicker cloud shield overtook the sky around 5 PM and held in the warmth. The high had been 51 after a low of 25.

You might be in trouble in terms of much frozen. Bradford, PA at 2117' is reporting +RA at 35/34.

Wellsville, NY is reporting -RN at 36/33, and they're also above 2100'.

My late aunt used to live like a quarter mile up the same road that the Wellsville Airport is on. My cousins still live at 2300' in Andover. They have had some really good snow events right into April. They caught a couple of those clipperish events earlier this month that passed south of us.... That's a different world at their elevation. The cold air might be a little deeper here at the onset, but time will tell.

I'm going out there around May 20th I think to get some small scotch pine saplings. They grow wild (obviously originally from a planted stand of them). Small ones pop up like weeds all over and a very fast growing tree.

Two of the three new apple trees we had bought last weekend had already been largely foliated. Those two are bent WAY over. good think there's not a lot lest they break. Amazing what the extra surface area of leaves creates. Gives an appreciatino of the impact of strong winds on trees in winter vs. stages of foliage.

31.2/29, snow cotninuing, though lighter.

Torch! Not seeing the trees through the forest, all the torch posts and he missed a snow call. Supposed King Snow Weenie Rev jumped the gun on his torch game this year, it was cute last year but needs a new schtick.

He is in full on Gibbs-reporting mode now. No trips by Ryan up Mt. Tolland massiff... deluded by lawn chemicals and too much running.
