nzucker
I've said FIVE times why I'm whining - 44F with a raging +AO sucks. All you say is we're "normal". Which is not what I'm talking about. Hello? What Scott said, the +AO pattern doesn't mean the same thing in April as it does in January. Remember, as the wavelengths shorten the "pattern" becomes a bit less important and local effects such as soil moisture and seabreezes contribute more to the sensible weather. This is particularly important to keep in mind when you forecast the warm season.
weatherMA
Unless you're going to a beach or by the pool all day, I'll just never understand the idea that 92F is better then 65-70 and dry; I don't get it.
dendrite
What I like about April so far, is that it's been relatively sunny. That's key right there. I'm happy with 58-64F temps with sunshine. I think we get depressed when we have that constant regime of low clouds and fog. Even on the chilly days with a raw east wind....50F in full April sun feels so much better than 50F with total cloudiness. Yup...there's been some decent rain events, but none of those useless 40F days with 24hrs of DZ/FG. I'd rather have my above normal weather in May instead of April anyways unless in can really torch like last year. Otherwise most general warm days this time of year are just 70F/30F up here and the 60F/40F with the 45-50F afternoon eau de seabreeze special for you. Logan11
It reminded me of a few days on the west coast of Ireland with the mist off the ocean well below..... also of Reykjavik in June one year. LOL ..so regardless the wx evokes memories of some past event and it has some redeeming qualities. I have to say, there is something nice about the misty weather in a nascent spring landscape....50/47 here right now with some DZ. You'll be sure to see some chilly weather Thursday, could be one of those NW flow days where you're like 40F with instability cumulus behind the front while it's 60 and sunny here... Thursday afternoon could be kinda like Sunday with the instability, but maybe cooler whereas Sunday did make the upper 40's at times.

There's been some connections to soil temps and severe outbreaks in the Plains. Big drought in TX right now, so we'll see. Obviously very dynamic systems will override any drought. Logan11
Yeah it's ridiculous to call 90F pleasant, but when it first happens we're gonna be treated to same nonsense in the media, tv wx guys, etc. as they all chirp on about the stellar hot wx. It's the same junk every year...... Unless you're going to a beach or by the pool all day, I'll just never understand the idea that 92F is better then 65-70 and dry; I don't get it. Logan11
If you just like it for the extremeness then I understand that ..same as we root for a record low of -22F in January. Only wx weenies would understand that of course. But people can't tell me 90+ and humid is pleasant to be out in. I'm a wx extremist like Kev. I can't explain why, but I love a good 100F/75F day. Big drought in TX right now, so we'll see. Obviously very dynamic systems will override any drought. Yeah there is a huge drought ongoing in the Southern Plains, so I'm wondering if we'll see a ridge building in there...could be an interesting summertime pattern with the Southern Plains/SE Ridge and then below normal heights over the Northern Tier with a -EPO/Aleutian ridge that we've seen a lot in this Niña regime...of course the Niña analogs say go below normal for most of the country following a strong cold ENSO event, but not sure I buy that with the soil anomalies and +AMO pattern. I do wonder what this last (I think last) Stratospheric warming will do. Remember is doesn't take much for a little high to build in from se Canada. dendrite
It's cool...so long as you don't have to work in it..lol. In the plastics factory I worked at during the summers in college I did...lol. Inside it was always about 10-15F warmer than the outdoor air temp. It would be absolutely stifling in 95F/75F days. The heat really doesn't bother me except at night if it is 80F+ in my bedroom while I'm trying to sleep. And I'm the same about anomalies. I think the only ones I hate are record highs in the winter. Jan 95 was a wretched disaster. As for Jan 04...I think that was the last below 0F high that has occurred up here. -10s with snow falling was cool too. Jan 06, 07, and 08 were disgraces...There were crocus blooming down here during Jan '07... Yes, that would be amazing. That must be like a 1 in 200 year event, however. For Boston to get 6" of snow on May 10th is just, well mind-boggling. Late-season generally sucks here, these late-season snows are easy to come by in the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains, even down to Detroit and Chicago, but we almost always get warm sectored by these big Plains systems. LOL..there would only be chainsaws and men with long hair blowing in the wind,, tied back with bandanas, pony-os, and kerchiefs. They would lay down plywood, so as the logs, and parts of trees they carefully roped off and cut would fall ono the wood, thus not creating any damage or divots in the lawn. All the sawdust would fall onto the wood..and some of it would get in their long hair..so when they were finished they would simply blow all the sawdust into the woods,, and then turn the blowers on each other as they undid their pony-os and tiebacks and let the blowers blow their hair clean like a lion in the wind
