Basically we reverted to a more typical La Nina situation in February and despite JB and others who thought it would change in early Spring, with a brief intermission it has held.... All that talk of 1956 and the snowy spring was totally wrong.

Here we got two excellent snowstorms out of the pattern in late February/early March anyway....

Oh yesterday I spotted two decent sized weenie drifts yet off the shady side of hillsides on a nearby road. They may survive to next week.... Also I did a hike at about 1600' in a preserve near here and snow patches here and there in shady ravines, very shaded hillsides etc. But the last ice melted on the lake last week they said.

Winter has been on and strong out that way since early February.

I agree wrt to warming up. I don't have much use for low 40s right now, but that's what is on the docket for tomorrow. Upper 50s would suit me fine.

Man, that is downright depressing, expecting around 70 here tom afternoon. Its been a fabulous spring in sw ct, early growing season, last 32 reading was in March here, perfect mix of rain and sun, the way spring should be, a gradual climb towards summer, loving every minute of it. Fruit trees, magnolias in peak bloom right now, you can hear the grass growing its growing so fast..........

Well, I don't fix toast while sitting in the tub like some here do on rainy 40F days but it could be nicer. lol At least it's a work day. Plenty of beautiful days in the offing up here over the warm months.

Well that's another world down there. :) I finally have about 2/3rds of the lawn greenish, but only a couple spots have a hint of growth. The fields are still 75% winter brown...some blades of grass just startiung to push up through the dead stuff if you look real close in...So I think in about two weeks (assuming mild wx) the lawn will really have started growing a lot. Early May first cutting as usual.

Once the soil temperature a certain temp out fields just go crazy in May and by June 20th you are looking at 3 to 4 foot hay and farmers starting their baling.

Yeah the NAO was able to override the Nina signal until it weakened. From then on it's been full blown Nina. However, now we have a stratospheric warming event so we have to be careful. If the NAO really tanks because of this....is drizzle disaster for us in May. Lets hope not.

this spring sucks. Boston's April high so far is 72.. may not see that again this month. Usually we get an upper 70s or 80 day in April.

NAO means jack sh*t, it's been +2SD all month and all we've had are a few couple garbage windy post-occlusion 60s-70 day. A -NAO would probably be warmer for us.

Steady light rain has moved in here and 38.5F at 12:40 PM.... That is wayyy below normal....

A balmy 44.7F and drizzle/rain here

I did get some fertilizer laid down yesterday, so this is good. Don't worry Pete, Tubes, I did not put down much.

Gotta drop off the mower for a tune up and drop my wife's car off for brake work

BOS is +1.2F. This Spring has been fine. If this happens in May, then that's different.

Big difference between there & here right now. Still have snow in the yard, lol. Not much left now but it's there nonetheless.

And it's not like it's been particularly slow here this year. More on par with normal I would say.

I wouldn't go that far, though it hasn't been a disaster either. BDR is only +0.8 for the month with 10 of 18 days with measureable precip, only 1/3 of the days with little to no clouds, and fog on all but 5 days this month. I believe leaf out is also behind where we were a year ago, though that was an unusual year.

Trees are just barely budding IMBY, compared to a full leaf out at this time last year. My grass is starting to green, but not ready for a cut until around May1, also weeks later than last year. One of the worst springs I can remember.

Gotta love that -10C 850 flirting with us on Thursday afternoon. Out here where we don't downslope it's gonna be quite a brisk situation.

That will probably be the last of the -10C contour until late fall...enjoy it! I have already planted some stuff in the garden so don't want a frost, NWS going with 36F here, hope it doesn't get any lower.

Yeah unfortunately all our potential for April snow has been wasted this year with the NAO so useless and this generally -PNA. It's sort of surprising we have had as many chilly days given the signals.

We have been on the southern edge of a beautiful chunk of April arctic air over Quebec, but no mechanism to use it with the NAO such that it is.

Yeah, Canada has been way below normal with the big Aleutian ridge that extends all the way back to Siberia...coldest air has definitely been on our side of the hemisphere, as is typical of Niña, but we lost the blocking after the 1/12 snowstorm and never really got it back...the rest of the winter was pretty hit-or-miss.

Magnolias are awesome here! Looks beautiful outside...it's too bad these flowering species don't last longer.

Your comment was about Spring so far. It's been fine so far. This is how April is.

Pleeze... Preaching to the choir here, but temp departure isn't the greatest indicator. We've had mild overnight lows in this garbage pattern.

Normal Springs in a monster +AO isn't "normal", at least to me

"Normal" springs are large diurnal temperature differences, not drizz, high 47 low 40 for a +0 "normal" day.

Yeah going 25F here Friday morning I see.... Pointless to plant here yet. I used to jump the gun and put early stuff in like peas, but then the people that waited until the first week of May would have caught right up to mine by about the 20th....
