Gonna turn on the AC? I turned mine on last year on April 7-- so it's not really that early, especially when you're first getting used to it. By June this will seem cool lol.

i may have to lol, but i realized that my basement is much cooler. But the AC may come on tonight. This upcoming week should atleast get us acclimated to 70s..May will take care of the 80s.

I've got to give credit to Forky, he nailed the warmth today saying Newark would hit 80F; I doubted him because of cloud cover, but even with some overcast skies EWR is at 81/56. Nice job and a bust for me...

Very muggy here in Westchester...currently 77.6/62 off a high of 78.7F...I doubt we get much higher as the overcast skies have arrived, and the SW wind is giving way to more southerly flow.

this kind of weather is a perfect example as to why we should maybe look at 850s/cloud-cover more than MOS. I'm not saying we're all MOS-huggers here, but 850s give you a true potential of just how warm it can get. I think for each of the next several days, right through Thursday, temperatures can vary substantially based on cloud-cover and also wind direction/onshore flow, etc.

Tuesday can really torch, especially for areas west of NYC and the CT/NY border.

You must be exposing your thermometer to the sun-- that's way too high (especially for SE Queens lol.)

Lol yeah, the sun wasn't shining directly on it but I think it still got effected by the sun.

I put it in the shade and it was 80, now it's currently 74. It feels cooler but it's still nice. My T-Storm senses are tingling lol j/k. But the sky looks like something's going to happen.

EWR's 850s were just under 12C at 18z today according to the 12z GFS. I'm surprised that so many people were able to make 80F with those 850s in a hazy spring sunshine, but it does seem that the urban heat island combined with the dead vegetation can really drive temperatures up this time of year. I think SW flow was also a major factor in creating a bit of a downsloping breeze for those of us farther north in the Hudson Valley, as well as in keeping the sea breeze away until later in the afternoon. I'm not sure too many meteorologists would call for widespread 80F readings looking at 12C 850s and cloud cover, but that's what happened. In any case, we have picked up .46" rainfall here in Westchester, and it's currently 64.9/64 with -RA. Feels muggy but at least the air is cooler.

wait until we get some oppressive summer nights, when the temperature won't even fall that low :sun:

We don't get too many low temperatures in the low 80s here, fortunately. I can only remember a few nights where it's stayed that hot. The warmest nights in the suburbs during most summers are usually in the 75F range. I do remember a fabulous heat wave back in 2006 or 2007; I was sitting on a friend's roof at 4am, and the outdoor thermometer was stuck at like 83F, that was just a brutally oppressive night although the tropical ambiance was kind of nice.

Wednesday is looking warm too

Tuesday and Wednesday both look quite hot...the 12z GFS has 20C surface temps up to Glens Falls Tuesday afternoon, although winds are due south. I imagine this is one of those scenarios where EWR and MMU have a bake-off in the 80s while LI deals with lower 60s.

Agree, same here. Last summer, with the stretch of 99-100F days in early July, my low temps were in the 71-74F range here in Colts Neck. I recorded a low of 82.0F on the night of July 24th last summer, which was the only 80F+ low I've ever recorded on my station (going back to 2007). We radiate very well around here, usually one of the coolest spots in Mercer/Monmouth/Middlesex area on clear/calm nights.

We need winds to persist throughout the night to remain 80F+, and last July 24th managed to do that, with WSWLY breezes of 3-5mph. Those nights are so surreal walking outside at midnight and actually feeling hot. Reminds me of my Phoenix trip a few years ago -- outside at 1am, it was 98 degrees!
