Was really hoping for a Cat 1 or stronger here. That doesn't look likely anymore :(

dont let the negative nellies who come out as soon as the storm weakens deter you. It will be a cat 1 at landfall. Jet interaction is going to help and she will get better before her NC landfall and water is plenty warm all the way up the jersey coast to sustain a weak hurricane

That's why I posted it in here....just a gut feeling based on past hurricanes/tropical storms and their lack of wind on the west side

Fair enough. I have only experienced sustained winds like that once in my life and it wasn't a hurricane/tropical storm. It was the December 1992 noreaster. I consider that a once in a lifetime storm in this region so if Irene fails to pack that kind of punch, it is very understandable.

Dont watch the weather channel, there acting like Irene is the reincarnation of Andrew or something.

The most dangerous storm of our lives...yeah ok. Its a Cat 1, give me a break

I don't believe any reporting station in the NYC area has a gust above 60 mph.

The storm will likely become extra tropical above OC MD.

Biggest concern will be coastal flooding and urban/small stream flooding with around 4-7 inches of rail in most spots.

lol WHAT? I'm willing to bet your life savings that a reporting station in NYC sees a 60+ mph gust

I think it's going to be close, Central Park and EWR won't, JFK and LGA will

I would assume there's certain wind restrictions. Usually they ban motorcycles and trucks but they might just shut down completely if winds get above 50 mph or so.

Anyone have any idea if they'll be closing bridges? I'm gonna be in Somerset NJ until Sat night and gonna head home to Brooklyn then instead of Sunday to ride out the storm at home.

They announced that once winds exceed 60mph they'll be shutting the bridges. MTA shutting down as of noon tomorrow.
