patrick7032
Just as a side note figured a few may like watching this storm, even if it's far away from the lower 48. My first storm up here which wasn't as low of a MSLP (was 954ish) had 115MPH measured in Dutch Harbor with cargo containers blown into the sea from the docks and the Wildlife Troopers measured 164 KTS (yes I verified it twice with him making sure it was KTS and not MPH. Measured by a ship just off shore near channeled terrain). It wouldn't surprise me if the ANC Forecast Office hoists HURRICANE WIND WARNINGS later today. baroclinic_instability
Has a classic upper height field look with extreme bombs. Also note how the IPV max/dynamic tropopause wraps up as the upper level cold front descends towards the surface. This rapidly increases the horizontal thermal gradient in the vertical--hint hint. In other words--this increases the jet level winds. In other words--intense PV anomalies within the flow create their own jet streaks as the atmosphere responds to an imbalance (the upper level front interacting with a low level baro zone). The atmosphere responds by creating an ageostrophic divergent jet stream and this sets in motion positive feedback cyclogenesis/self development. This is why intense bombing storms typically have coupled jet streaks--just as this one here does as well. In other words--coupled jet streaks are a response to a deep and intense IPV max. IPV FTW. Note the massive amount of jet divergence and the classic "V" cloud pattern on the inner portion of the curved jet as the low level flow within the warm conveyor belt rises rapidly into the divergent portion of the ageostrophic jet circulation. This is deep cyclogenesis.

Hey beavis....life is good and it's beautiful. I will post pics later. The tundra/grass, wild flowers, strawberries, and blueberries haven't blossomed yet and it's still nice.
