nzucker
gfs again colder for western ct. Heavy sleet with some flakes mixing in here in Dobbs Ferry... 36.3/34 Hoping for a nice surprise but probably won't happen.
CoastalWx
The snow becomes wet...basically melted small flakes when the echoes light up, but as soon as the heavier stuff moves in...boom..aggregate city.

GFS looks a little too far east with the heavy moisture I would think, based on radar

ORH_wxman
HRRR looking good Yeah from here northeastward it gives another inch of qpf. That would be sweet if that verified.
OKpowdah
GFS focuses upper level diffluence a little further west, over New England, which is good for everyone. We'll see if it actually shows at all in the QPF though

nzucker
that heavier precip has arrived finally, its a mix. lets hope we can go over to snow The 850 line is right on top of us, have to hope it sags south or we get some really heavy echoes to drive down the cold. We're having both mid-level problems and a slightly mild BL, although that's not too bad now that it's night.

powderfreak
GFS plain out sucks here Haha wow this might get lower than 3-6" up here. These model runs have been quite interesting leading up to this storm... we've seen it all the past 5 days. Still fun to watch this play out, especially in those areas that still have a chance to get a solid warning criteria snowfall.

nzucker
kitchen sink rain slush puppies ip and pixie dust blowing around like crazy winds are up, pretty cool Yeah I don't know how to make a proper obs for this precip....although there is less rain here probably because the elevation and distance from the coast is keeping me colder. Is it RAIPSN?
eduggs
The returns near LI are going to really have to blossom northward to get the .4 liquid in western Ma over the next 8hrs of so that the GFS prints out.
powderfreak
00z GFS is a huge bust for a lot of the BTV and ALY county warning areas... you can't win 'em all and such is life on the outer edge of the storm (err "modeled storm").
Mr Torchey
Just an observation, but echoes look great just offshore of the del, and just to the west echoes are fanning nw in a classic lp formation fashion. Going to be a long night for those that are snowing.

wxsniss
Hey everyone, back from a few (impatient) hours with the gf. Here in Brookline / Boston metro, as Jerry said, accumulation is very elevation dependent... driving just a mile westward (up Route 9, west and increased elevation) you can see a definite improvement in accumulation. Light snow accumulated on cars and spotty on grass, nothing on roads or pavement. 6z-12z timeframe on GFS/NAM looks to be our exclamation point for this winter, if surface boundary layer can stay cool enough. I think it is. I had a pretty heavy band come through before I got home, and that's probably what gave me an inch. It was about 0.9" on the car tops and grass, but called it an inch. It did briefly cover the streets, but now it melted except for the sides and cracks on the street.
