40/70 Benchmark
Its an awesome meso-scale phenomenon to watch play out... albeit maybe frustrating when you are in one of those larger interior valleys. Wasn't that the case in '92? Coastal plain and hills got hit hard, but CT Valley and Hudson Valley were screwed due to downsloping off an east wind? I always hated an east wind living near Albany... hated it. Pete's construction site in Savoy would always take all the moisture out of the air before it got to the Hudson Valley. Yea....I had like 21"...Will had 3' and the CT river vallery had like a couple inches of glop.
ChrisM
The influence of those hills in the Valley and subsequent downsloping is much more dramatic in MA than it is here in CT. The hills around me aren't very impressive lol I think we're up to about 2 mm accumulation! Overperforming strongly! 2" tops outta this. FFS. friedmators
that's fine, I believe you, I can also see the airport if vis was better. Any accumulation yet? Only a light coating here, wet pavement though. Grassy surfaces only as of my last cig break. MarkO
In the end that's what matters, good times and good memories. A good pow pow day on an average mountain blows away lousy conditions or school week at Stowe. Stowe is great mountain, but the last time I was there on a weekend it was insane near the base (near the gondola) where all the trails filled with kids and herbs were mucking things up. I really don't get it.
Damage In Tolland
About 1.2 OTG.. Trees are droopy like a old pair of wrinkly cans. Any idea what time I should wake up for the heavy stuff? Will, Scooter??
powderfreak
I worked for ski watch for years and have enjoyed comp tickets from every hill. Stowe is a fun mountain but simply not worth that price. That's more than a ticket at Whistler or Alyeska. But hey, if people are willing to pay that more power to them. That's why they invented climbing skins. Definitely. But even so, Stowe isn't the most expensive (Stratton I think) in VT. Some mountain just went over $100 for a day ticket... I want to say Aspen. That's what a day of cat-skiing cost 10 years ago. Anyway, sorry for OT... enjoy your trip to Alaska, Pete. Send some pics back this way.

Typhoon Tip
Holy bust Batman! 2" and counting here at home in TAN. Not for me... I posted several times warning people that the colder solutions were likely to verify, and also that I was a bit nonplussed as to why the warm thinking. I even sited it as plausibly linked to psychology at the fact that it was 57F in hot sun yesterday.

That's if you buy the walk up price for a day--if you do a 5 day pass, it's $80 a day--still expensive, but a hell of a mountain

ORH_wxman
Will..anyone? Any ideas or no? Otherwise I'm out This storm is impossible to nail down when heavier precip comes down. There's stuff expanding over coastal NJ right now that could be here in 4-5 hours...but perhaps sooner if it keeps blossoming ot the NE...the heavier stuff down near the tidewater of VA looks like it could get in here late tonight after 3am. I really couldn't give you a good answer. I think the heaviest will probably be between midnight and 6am though.

That's if you buy the walk up price for a day--if you do a 5 day pass, it's $80 a day--still expensive, but a hell of a mountain meh. Vail village (Gore creek, specifically - fly fishing FTW) was great in the summertime, but the skiing was underwhelming for their fame. Much preferred Winter Park, Breck, and A-basin. Ginx snewx
That's obscene. I've never had to pay for a ticket at Stowe and at those prices I wouldn't. Not worth the price of admission. MRG at half that is unbeatable. I paid 399 for lodging and skiing for 5 days at SR with hot tub, sauna, pool, 130 trails, no crowd and got to watch a great big air contest. 84 a day is crazy.
