It makes me wonder if the laws up here could use some retooling.... basically, you have law abiding citizens who are strictly gun controlled and gang thugs who are not-- hence the higher rates of violence. It should be the other way around.

I still think you, Kevin and Ray will all get to 100".... the Euro does usually verify a little too warm on surface temps .... I wouldn't be surprised if you all had double digit snowfalls out of this.

Only late night can we sometimes have OT stuff get in here, lol....otherwise I wipe it all out because of the volume. But as a quick OT related story...there was a home invasion in MA back in 1995 I believe and the perpetrator injured himself during the break in and actually sued the the home owners for injury...that is probably the most insane thing I've ever heard. In Texas they have what is called the "home and personal protection" law. Meaning you can never be charged for a crime if you injure someone breaking into your home. If someone enters your home, you can't be charged with murder if you kill them while protecting your family. But that doesn't apply in every state obviously as demonstrated by that ridiculous 1995 case. In MA you can be charged with that even if they are trying to kill you, lol. You are supposed to run out of your home or something.

Anyways, obviously OT, but this is late night...we used to dicsuss these random topics back in '07-'08 when nobody was on late and it was just me, Arnold, Ray and a few others.

I know this is OT.. but just wanted to point out a couple things that I don't think were correct in the discussion last night. Would be happy to take this to AP if people want to continue the discussion.

1) For one thing, Texas has a fairly low gun ownership rate, with only 35% owning a gun in the home or vehicle, which is a ranking of #31 (below median).

2) The rate of gun deaths per capita is dramatically higher in states with higher gun ownership and looser gun laws. LA, AL, AK, MS and NV lead the nation in gun deaths/capita. They also have loose gun laws and higher gun ownership/capita. After those 5, in order come AZ, WY, TN, AR, NM, SC, WV, OK, MO, NC, MT, KY, ID, GA. Noticing a pattern? All conservative states, with loose gun laws and high ownership rates.

This pattern remains true for overall murder rate/capita. See the recent Harvard Study States with Higher Levels of Gun Ownership Have Higher Homicide Rates

This pattern also remains true for the homicide rate of women and children. In other words, women and children are more likely to be murdered in states with higher gun ownership rates and looser gun laws. This remains true even after adjusting for factors such as urbanization, alcoholism, and unemployment. Even after adjusting for 3rd variables the overall homicide rate in states with the highest quartile of gun ownership is 60% above the national average. This is driven by a gun-related homicide rate that is 114% higher than the national average. The non-gun related homicide rate is the same. The accidental gun death rate, and the use of guns by children are also higher. Simply put, when there are more guns around, more people end up dead.

Some other stats:

- the U.S. has 3X the female homicide rate compared to other western nations with tougher gun laws

- the suicide rate among teenagers is 9X higher in households with a firearm

Good afternoon all:

I have not been able to keep up with what's been changing the past few hours on the storm. Sounds like latest is that it's pushing more S and E and a colder solution for SNE. Is that the case? I haven't had time to check out the latest and sorry for the IMBY question, but how is the 128 corridor NW of Boston looking right now? Souds like maybe 2-4, 3-5 right now, correct?

Thanks.

Climo is messin with a lot of people's thoughts. Best shot at sig April snow in a decade will do that. Overnight dump increases the odds IMO. Man I hope the dynamics get insane. Despite my tongue in cheek forecast this has great potential, and yes hubbub I still think you get 14.
