Allenson
I love Sugarloaf... Great mountain. Spent three winters working/skiing there and skied the be-jesus out of the place. Saddleback is cool too. Kind of the Burke/Mad River of Maine.

HIPPYVALLEY
Haha, yeah we may not have any spring skiing this season... we're closing April 17th regardless of the fact that we'll be 100% open with a 3-9 foot natural base. I love Sugarloaf... I think Mansfield is a pretty asthetically pleasing mountain, but Sugarloaf is like the end-all of sweet looking mountains. It was just begging for someone to put a ski area on it. Nothing like a first time visitor coming around omg corner and seeing this: The original plan in the 50's was to develop the Bigelow range across the valley from Sugarloaf. They wanted to build "the Aspen of the East" The state of Maine and all of the woodsman, hunters and environmentalists said no way! CT Rain
Everything else east and colder and yet the NAM seems to be right according to some lol??? What will you do when the GFS ticks colder again? No jumping back on board I didn't say the NAM was right just say it sucked. I think 3-5 for you is reasonable. I think the area of heaviest snow will be NW of HFD in CT not NE. CT Rain
Doable. I'll go 6.8 For you? You're going 5-9 but expecting the low end of that range? I think with you elevation 3-5 is a good call. I'm not really expecting much of anything here. 1-3 if we're lucky.

kmcfarland99
I cannot believe how the axis of heavy has shifted SE on NAM. Ruh roh... Would this shift the heavy snow on top of us here in Portland? I took a look at the 12Z nam, 36 hr to precip and there is big 'ole purple spot (2" qpf) on top of us, however I dont understand how to read the other maps wells enough to know if that is going to be snow/mix or rain. Wx4cast
nam east and much colder, night and day down here. It still has the H7 low cutting off over NNJ/NYC..there will probably be a warm layer btwn 800-700 millibars.

Yeah that's what's going to suck for many of us. NAM has 850s below 0c almost the entire time in HFD but is just about all rain with some really warm layers in there. I have the higher numbers in case things go like the Euro and Euro ens...I could easily see it it just ripping heavy snow with 1-2 inches per hour for a time. NAM has 850s below 0c almost the entire time in HFD but is just about all rain with some really warm layers in there. We basically need the southern shortwave stronger to wrap up the low sooner...but at the same time have the energy in the backside of the trough allow the low to push east. It's a precarious situation. East and weaker doesn't really cut it as is evident in the NAM solution.
