Feb 6, 1978 was pretty much it...

CO poisoning, freezing to death in a few cases, coastal flooding related, heart attacks.

No one will be killed by heavy heavy dendrites specifially

Feb 6 1978 was just another Nor Easter up here, Was not even our biggest snowstorm, Feb 1969 storm would have been closer to one if there ever was one..

And would you discredit it completely? It's certainly in the realm of plausible scenarios imo attm.

No not discredit it completely, but surely people can see that it is in fact an outlier.

As much as I'm on board with this storm, I'm still going about this cautiously ...ways to go folks

Lines at Roche brothers full of people buying water milk and canned rations. They're selling redneck shovels at the front desk (propane torches).

6z gfs is being flashed on in store tvs and they have a live feed of this thread rolling.

I just bought a spare snow house in case this one collapses. I buy nothing about this storm yet- not joking on that one.

Shelby Scott is riding in a conga line of plows down Rte 3 as we speak.

Snowblower is fully gassed with an extra 10 gallons on hand just in case. I already started the generator and filled the tub with water.

Good move on the tub. This is smart planning on both the heavy snow front, and the zero snow/ rainstorm/ total wiff front.

If the storm throws you a wiff, the tub will be ready for you to take the good ole' electric bath.

Sadly, my house has those plugs with protection built in for the bathrooms. They must have known a weenie would live there someday.

Must run an extension cord for the toaster...

Skiing on tap tonight. Wachusett closes Sunday even if they get 3 feet of blue snow. I guess they are not allowed to operate beyond April 15 even if the snow is still there.

Only 1 run is actually closed... amazing cold

It does appear that some snow is en route. It will be interesting to see what wins out: the melting of the remainder of my field or a replenishment of undetermined depth.

I don't think a snow storm will sit well with my daughter's visit to Keene. She was there in the snow a month or so ago. I think she might find sitting in the stands watching Jay play at Towson a better climatological place.

Meanwhile, looks like a relatively warm one today. Already up to 30.1/14.

Small world...

My roomate is going to Keene. Kind of funny her two choices are so related!

Go Tigers!

I always found the whole skiing past certain dates thing interesting, especially when there's good snow. I assumed it had something to do with cost per amount of people that will actually be there. About 10 years ago I was at Waterville Valley on May 1st. The skiing was awesome, and they still had 80-90 percent open. I asked one of the employees why they were closing in a few days, and she said that one of the main reasons is that most of the people who travel there from Boston or what ever point south are not thinking about skiing any more, but golf, and other outdoor activities, and that it's not worth running the place.

I was at SR one year, think 01, they have Ski Mania day for free May 1st, they had only two lifts running but the rest of the mountain had feet of snow. They told me the same thing, seasonal staff was let go and they were gearing up for spring/ summer. unfortunately business dictates but I am sure lots of skinning going on.

That is impressive for the end of March down in the ORH Hills... take advantage of it while you can! Does WaWa lease the land from the state or something like that? It is not uncommon for ski areas to not be allowed to operate past a certain date depending on wildlife impacts and travel routes... but its much more common out west where ski areas are in Elk and Caribou migration patterns.

Anyway, this has been one amazing end to March in terms of temperatures. Even the valley's have seen a net gain in snowpack in the last 8 days. Stowe is currently 100% open and natural snow depths range from 34" at 1,500ft to 98" at 3,700ft.

Maybe if the Friday storm works out for the interior, we can push the snow depth into the 9 foot range.

This is definitely the reason why most ski areas close down... take today up at Stowe for example. Its 12F at the top, 24F at the base, its been snowing steadily all morning, conditions are fantastic for mid-January and there's absolutely no one here. Snowfall doesn't even bring folks out anymore.

There are some ski areas though that are told by the forest service at the state or federal level that they need to close on a certain date for wildlife coming out of hibernation or migration patterns. This is much more common out west though.

Never heard that, although I think that logic holds true, partially for the snowmobile season ending in April out on the Tug Hill area of NYS.

I'd always prefer a sharp trough vs re dual lobe flatter bottom pos the nam has. Two main s/w complexes is bad

Yeah, Its flat, Looks like it wants to place most of the emphasis on the 1st wave and 2nd gets absorbed, 3 s/w looks like its going to follow the 1st, Still a long ways to go on this one to see which piece becomes dominant
