WOW THAT WAS TOTALLY INTENSE!!! :yikes: I heard there was a tornado warned coming towards me (so as the weather freak I am) I went outside!:lmao: It turned pitch black to the west and I saw some flashes of lightning (not much). Then all of a sudden, I saw a GREEN FLASH! I nearly almost passed out because I never saw that before and I knew that normally meant that a tornado was on the ground or something!

Then like 30 seconds after the green flash (I still was in shock), the heavens just let loose and the wind ramped up big time! I ran in my porch and it looked like absolute hurricane conditions outside...extremely heavy rain and strong wind! My power went out for about 10 minutes! Very crazy!!! The storm lasted for about 10 minutes.

I heard there was a confirmed sighting of a tornado on the ground in Emigsville York County! That is only like 5 minutes to my northeast! IDK if its true or not though...

My weather station recorded a gust of 38 mph during the storm and (get this)...10 inch per hour rainfall rates!!! INSANE! :lightning:

Well, that is my story...I think I will be out scouting the area tomorrow! :scooter:

Here in Carlisle at 10:30pm....

Radar finally shows the western edge of the rain moving into western Cumberland county...but not before dumping 2.96" of rainfall and depositing puddles of water in my basement

What a day. I'm not sure I have ever witnessed all of these watches/warnings simultaneously in effect: Flash Flood Watch, Wind Advisory, Flood Watch, Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning, Tornado Watch, Special Weather Statement. I've been around quite a long time and I honestly cannot remember this many items issued by NWS all at the same time.

I might also add that besides today's 2.96" which fell in a little over 13 hours, I have recorded 4.97" of rainfall for this past week, which started last Sunday morning at 12:00AM. I'm not sure how many weeks ago I set up my unofficial wireless rain gauge but it says it has recorded a total of 8.46" of rain. I think I put it out about 5 weeks ago.

Maybe tomorrow's winds with sunshine can start to dry things out. I need to run a fan in my basement to evaporate the puddles.

I made a thread in the SNE forum but there could be some t'storms later on today as the strong cold pool aloft moves across the area...this will create a very steep lapse rate environment and with some daytime heating will help to create some weak sfc-based instability and some elevated instability too. If storms do develop they could certainly produce some small hail...perhaps one or two storms produces severe hail (1'' in diameter).

Something about the Southern portion of the valley that likes tornados. Hardly ever have them up here in the Northern portion.

I saw a PA tornado probability map on Weather World one time, and there is like a minor tornado alley from like Gettysburg to Carlisle to Harrisburg to just west of Philly.

As recently as yesterday morning, our local forecast was calling for a 50% chance of showers. My point was that this looks a bit more impressive than that...

Gotcha. I was looking more at forecast models than actual forecasts. The one thing that is a bit disconcerting is over and over again, for the last few weeks, the GFS has had anywhere between 2.5-5 inches of rain for total 15-day precip. And it's been verifying. That really sucks.

Really? This was forecasted for a few days.

Because of the flooding? That sucks.

Jamie,

the boi water advisory is because yesterday a contractor hit a major water main. It basically shut down harrisburg. The State, HACC and most other business's in the area had to shut down. Volunteer Fire Companies had to send their tankers to stand by in Harrisburg City Firehouses because no water in the Hydrants. Now again today, there is another major water main break and many offices closed again, including the state

Ended up getting 2.55" from the weekend storm. Looks like today is suppose to bring us .74" of rain.

I guess it is better to have an overabundance of rain than a drought. But it is starting to get old. :(

Jamie

I guess the highlight of the Blue White game was...Apparently to get drunk and do mud slides in Lot 13.

Wow.

Water main breaks used to happen a lot when I lived in Pittsburgh, likely still do. There was one that totally flooded a lot of downtown. Sorry to hear.

I hope they hang the Harsco contractor in the Market Square because of this. I also hope the city and state sends all bills / loss of revenue to Harsco because of this.

Ugh.

Im starting to wonder if the sun even exists anymore.

this is horrible.:yikes:

Thursday there will be thousands of UFO reports.

Guarenteed to see the sun tomorrow...why? We have no games tomorrow night. That's been the most accurate way to forecast down here for the past few weeks. If we have baseball or softball, it rains that day. If not, sunny, blue skies...

Way to bust our severe chances, dude. drunk.gif
