Walt Drag's take on severe potential for Wed.

WEDNESDAY...HOT AND HUMID WITH THE HI IN THE UPPER 90S IN OUR GRIDS. MODERATE TO HIGH PROB FOR AN EVENTUAL URBAN HEAT WARNING AND SURROUNDING HEAT ADVISORY. TOO DISTANT TO ISSUE A WATCH ATTM EXCEPT TO CONTINUE THE NOTE IN HWOPHI. LOW PROB OF A THUNDERSTORM. WE SAW THIS MORNINGS DAY 5 OUTLOOK VIA SPC. FOR NOW THE TSTM MIGHT BE EARLY MORNING? JUST DONT HAVE A GOOD FEEL FOR THIS POSSIBILITY. NOTE...THERE IS AN EML INDICATION FOR WED. IF CONVECTION OCCURS AND EML IS STILL THERE... BIG HAILERS AND DAMAGING WIND WOULD BE MORE LIKELY IF CONVECTION CAN BE INITIATED IN MODELED 4000J AIRMASS. BIG CAPE CAN RESULT IN BIG WIND. QUESTION IS WHETHER GUIDANCE EML IS CORRECT.

Heat advisory for Philly tomorrow from Noon until 9PM.....yikes! A heat wave already? Well, techincally from last year it's a bit late.

PHL's first official heat wave last year was June 2nd to 6th. There were two 90-degree days before then in May.

Yeah, yeah...you're right. We did have those few 90-degree days in late April, but it was not an official heat wave as I believe the third day it was 89.

BTW, another earthquake in Southern NJ today.

At that time i thought i heard something explode locally. But i know the 2 arent linked, WTF is up with these small earthquakes in our region as of late? Isnt this a bit odd?

You might've had 90s in April last year, but PHL didn't. Their first 90 last year wasn't til May.

Severe thunderstorm warning for Lehigh/Northampton...definitely didn't expect this when I went to bed. I thought that line in N PA would miss well to the north. Lots of close-range lightning/thunder with this, one strike just caused my house to have a power surge.

YIkes. Is this the same MCC that was cutting across the GL last evening? Boom. Constant lightning. Nice show, but it woke the family up an hour early...

The initial MCS nearly collapsed across eastern NY state earlier, then the current convective line developed on the southwestern flank tied to an MCV.

That explains it - thanks, Mike. Thought last night that the original was ticketed for SNE if it survived. I've seen these guys dive southeast, but that would have been a pretty sharp right!

Will be interested to see if there are any damage reports. Despite the vivid lightning display, I didn't observe much other than some brief heavy rain. A little bit of wind, but the two events last week packed more of a punch in that department. This morning's complex certainly looked like a wind producer...

I was going to sleep in a little this morning....but it's okay. I like nature's fireworks!

Plus, we finally had a thunderstorm with some damn wind! Every storm so far this season has either passed me to the north or to the south so I'd be on the fringe of these things....but this time, direct hit! Granted it was about 35mph, but I'll take it! :)
